I've got 1.25GB of Ram right now in my T43. I've got the ultra powerful Intel integrated graphics solution. Is there any benefit to upgrading from 1.25gb to 2gb?
This is the $80 question. I will be upgrading in the future, but I'm wondering if it's worth $80 right now. My gut tells me no and my wallet tells me the price of ram has jumped $15 over the last 3 months.
Anybody with 2GB give me your impression on the difference. Note, only give opinions between 1GB to 2GB. The advantages over 256-512mb go without saying.

Unless you have a specific need, I don't think it is worth it.

not worth it. i had the same idea of going over the tops with ram on my desktop when i built it (it's not on a laptop, but so what? the concept is the same), and i never NEVER get to fully use my 2 gigs of ram...not even 1.5 i think...maybe not even 1!

If YA WANT... Will increase battery life...
Santasballz u are wacked. "NEVER get to fully use my 2 gigs of ram...not even 1.5 i think...maybe not even 1!"
FOR one, PUT 1 GB IN MY baby (which I did) and this thing has longer battery life, better 'smoothness' in games, and overall pc smoothness. Putting 2 GBS (I did) and I get 'ultimate' performance in linux and battery life is put 30 mins (if it matters), umm rendering time is split in half (about)...
I think I DO FULLY USE 2 gbs... For example AUTOCADING.
O ya to answer YO QuestIon Dog... IF u don't do lots of hard core stuff. A GB will do u fine... Wait a bit and maybe price go down but also DDR2 so maybe non ddr2 becomes expensive. For example amd 64 3000 is so hard to find so a lot of money... I think 2 gb is good for what I do. Is it worth though adding 80 bux into pc right now if u don't use much hardcore stuff.
don't buy itt. -
what i said was true, I never do use 2 gigs of ram, because i don't autocad and such.
you may be correct on the battery life thing, you may be incorrect. I can't comment on that though as I was referring to my desktop.Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -

Ok, so with regards to laptops. Only responses from those who have 2GB of DDR2 ram. I too have a desktop with 2GB of ram, but this a laptop forum. If nobody has a 2GB that's ok.
I may wait awhile. -
Prob is
DDR2

Karl-
1st things, 1st - THIS IS A BUSINESS machine - don't think for a minute that your video will improve to the point that you can start playing games. I have the 128MB 3200 card and video performance is good - but I still did not buy this machine to 'Game' with.
If you are using your machine to surf the web, play online games, and read your e-mail - then the 1 mb is fine. However, if you use your machine like I do, you will really appreciate the extra ram.
Among many other things, I use SQL server 2005 and work with multi-gig databases in the field. I also use Visual Studio 2005 deveolping enterprise applications. I also have Photoshop CS2 loaded to review images from some of the graphic designers.
I notice a BIG difference in performance when running these apps to their fullest. DB queries are MUCH slower working from the hard drive, rather than cached in RAM.
After spending 3,000 + on this machine - I had no problem spending an extra few bucks to bring out it's potential.
I would recommend it *IF* you are running large business applications. Otherwise, for e-mail, word processing, web surfing, basic spreadsheets, etc... your 1 gb is fine and you won't notice a great deal of difference.
Karl - again - this is a business machine and it comes with Windows XP Pro. There is a tool in XP called performance monitor. Setup some performace counters and monitor your system use over the course of a few days. Set counters for things like memory, disk usage and page file usage. You will be able to anaylze this data and make an informed decision about any potentional performance bootle necks and the best method of remedy.
To use the Performace tool - go to Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Performace. If you open the help from there, you will find some good information.
Best of luck to you! -
That's what I use it for, business purposes. I do not play games on my T43
Anybody have 2GB of ram on T43?
