I placed an order for it last Friday directly from IBM, but its not going to be available until end of July [ :(] The system I ordered is T42 P-M 1.7GHz (735 Dothan), 1GB DDR333, 60GB 7200 rpm hd, 64MB ATI Radeon 9600. So, I was wondering if anybody have the same or similar system (I think jeremy31 does?) and run Pi calculation on it? I already looked through the previous posts and even posted the results for my Inspiron 9100 which I just returned back, but the only 1.7GHz 735 there was in Dell 8600 system. So, I'm interested in the peformance of the actual T42 configuration. Anybody?

hey twister, I dont have a T42, I have a T41, with similar specs to the T42 you ordered. Anyway, I wanted to know what is the Pi calculation, is it some sort of a benchmark? I mean I know what Pi is (3.142....) thanx for your time.

    Hey twister,

I just got my T42 23733UU today! I haven't had time to do much more than charge the battery. I can already tell the HUGE difference between my current HP and my new IBM. This thing is built like a tank![ :D]

    the results of the tests:

    With AC Power: + 000h 02m 18s [ 2M]
    Without AC Power: + 000h 02m 15s [ 2M]

@ Hangfire: If you get a chance, can you please run that Pi calculation? BTW, what is your T42 configured with?

@ Mustafa: Sorry, the only knowledge of arabic I have is to greet someone :) I wasn't even sure if you are really from Saudi Arabia, or just put that as a joke in your profile. Since, you have T41 with M1.7GHz, I assume its not Dothan 735 cpu but Banias processor? So, this is consistent with a fact that Dothan having twice as much of L2 chache (2MB) should run on average 15% faster. Even so I didn't get mine yet, I'm putting together all the data to make a comparison table. This is very interesting stuff. Everytime I ask someone about CPU comparison, they reply "It runs faster than my desktop". I'm looking more for a data with numbers to back this statement up. Pi calculation is a very interesting test. Also, make sure when you run it, nothing else cpu-intensive is running in a background.

[ :)]Run the test many times, so the value (average) that you report has any value for comparisons. Report the standard error with your estimate.

Thinking of sending my new T42 back. I got a couple of dead pixels that bother me. I may step up to the 15.0 screen...
