    Hi,

I am above all, buying a thinkpad for school work, but it would be cool to play a few games on it to.

This is how I hope my new system will look

    Duo 1.8
    1 Gig Ram
    With the Quadro NVS 140M

    Anyone game on similar specifications?

What games are you looking to play? The 140 is a GeForce 8400...fine for light gaming in simpler games like Half-Life 2.

Oh yeah the 8400, isn't it supposed to be much more powerful than the go 7400?

I was hoping for maybe Maxing out the older brothers in arms, battlefield 2, flight sim 04, and the lower settings on flight sim x.

I'm sure you'll get good performance out of BF2, but I doubt that you'll be able to max out Company of Heroes settings while maintaining a good framerate... I haven't experimented with the Quadro myself, but I've read a bunch of threads on NBR as well as on the http://forum.thinkpads.com/ forum and I think you'll get medium settings on it.

The NVS 140m appears to be based on the 8400M-GS, and it does perform significantly better than the 7400, yes. It will still have problems with high settings on some games which have high level texturing, such as Flight Sim X, because it only has a 64-bit memory bus, however for older games it should be fine on medium-high to max settings. Any game currently out should run on at least medium settings. Also you could consider installing Geforce drivers and potentially overclocking, both of which I did on my NVS 110m to boost performance.

CounterStrike (source) runs very well on mostly high settings. I have been playing some WoW on it and it is running fine. I have yet to bother with high end FPS yet on this machine.

I play C&C 3 with high settings at 1200x800 res. It runs very well. I have also tried GTA3 San Andreas maxed out at 1440x900 and Second Life, and both of those ran very well.

You can use Geforce drivers when using the Quadro cards? Cool!

cs:source, City of Heroes, BF2, CoD2 all run really well on pretty high settings. CoH can get kinda slow at times if there is too much going on, but that happens even on my desktop. (everything runs at 1440x900)
