Any way to set the main battery to drain first, instead of the ultrabay battery?

I have a T61 with the 9 cell and the ultrabay slim battery. Whenever I have both in the computer simultaneously, the computer is always set to use the ultrabay battery first. Since this battery has a much lower capacity, it almost always goes through an entire cycle on each use, which is bad for longevity. Is there any way to set the Thinkpad to use the main 9 cell first, then switch to the ultrabay battery when the main battery is low?

I think this is only possible manually. You can remove the battery or possibly force the computer to access the main one instead (this may only work under Linux). I agree this behavior is less than ideal, and is one of the main reasons I never bought an Ultrabay battery for my T40.

Here is the UltraBay battery guide from ThinkWiki. It may help, but I don't think you will be able to get the behavior you want.

I realize this is an old thread, but I thought I thought I'd respond anyway....

I recently saw a posting on another site that suggested releasing the eject lever but leaving the battery in the Ultrabay drive. Supposedly, the system can still "see" the Ultrabay battery but this reverses the order of use and depletes the main battery before using the Ultrabay battery.

    It's worth a shot....
