I run the update for Atheros a/b/g/n driver last night. Prior to that, everything was running smoothly for 6 month, and I had a perfect N connection with my DLink router. But, after the update, I have connection for 5-10 minutes, than it gets disconnected. I'm showing ThinkVantage 100% signal strength, but have to go and re-connect to my wireless server (running WPA encryption). Anyway, just wondering if anybody else did the upgrade and how is it working for you? BTW, I do have Power Save disabled on both wi-fi and ethernet cards to fix that other problem...

Power save could be the issue.

    Twister,
I just installed it this AM on my T60. Link now reads 100% (used to be 93-100%, so may have improved). System has been stable for about 6 hours now, so seems OK to me.

(I do not run encryption. I connect to a Linksys 54G router.)

Tholek, do you mean power save should be turned on then?

I have power save OFF on both. That what did the trick before when I was loosing the connection everytime I close the lid and ethernet card power save on kicked in. Everything was working fine until this upgrade. I also recently upgraded the firmware on my Router (DLink D655 N router), but there is no problem on my other T42 with Intel card and G connection (same WPA encryption), only problem on my T60 with Atheros N card.

I see in Access Connection 100% signal strenth, but after a short time internet connection gets lost and I have to "Find WLAN" and connect back to the router. I have to use WPA encryption since we have a ton of leechers in our neighborhood.

I even called Lenovo tech support, big mistake. "Connecting to Altanta location" my arse, they are clueless, and I had to guide them through on the phone. Their suggestion was to go back to WinXP system restore to get back my previous setup?!? Nonsense.

    So, any suggestions or comments?

I have the exact same problem with my T61. My internet would completely stop working even though signal is 100% with wireless or plugged in (other comps on LAN work fine). I don't know why it's doing this but it's super annoying!

Which wi-fi card do you have in your T61? Intel or Atheros? Also, are you running at G or N? Have you updated your router firmware recently and which router do you have? I'm trying to analyze things, and learned that DLink firmware update I recently performed had to do with v2.0 of N draft. I wonder if there are some glitches related to this? Could be related to N card too if they are updating with new v2.0 requirements...

I'm laughing because I got the exact same tech area and they were pretty out to lunch. After awhile he complained for spending an hour with me and that I should restore the entire system. Actually, it worked fine once I rebooted. Truthfully, he did help by saying to remove Thinkvantage access and let XP handle the wireless. I also have the ABGN on my T60 and after the last update it messed things up, in spite of me having the power save mode turned off in the driver. Works fine now though, although it gets a high pithchedhumming noise (the wireless) when I plug and unplug the battery. Doesn't happen if I boot only from battery to begin with.

Meant off, but it's a moot point now.

Hmm, good point about uninstalling ThinkVantage Access Connection manager. It was an issue about 5 month ago, but got resolved. I think its back. The whole point of the problem is that Connection gets lost not the wireless signal. I will try switching to WinXP wireless manager and will let you guys know.

... update: I uninstalled Access Connection util, and still have this disconnect problem. The next step is going back to previous firmware on my router. There is possibility that a resent update to v2.0 of N-draft on DLink router might not be fully compatible with Atheros N drivers for our wi-fi card. Will update this post after a day of testing or until I get another connection drop :)

Well I'm using a Linksys WRT54G (flashed with tofu firmware). I've tried both the wireless and ethernet connections and BOTH still have the same problem. I would be able to use things such as MSN Messenger but not IE or any update programs (anti-virus, Windows update, IBM update, etc.) I haven't changed the firmware on the router or anything recently and this is with the built-in Intel AGN card. I have disabled Access Connections from starting up (haven't uninstalled yet) but it doesn't help. ;\

Right now, I can use MSN Messenger but nothing else.

Could this be the reason why you can no longer order the Atheros a/b/g/n wireless card on the new T61's? Is this is indeed the case, then it's a real bummer.

Well, here is an update. I went back to the old router firmware, and still had problems. Than, went back to an older Atheros b/g/n driver (6.02.38 from 10/5/06) and everything works like a charm. What is interesting that this new b/g/n driver update list it as "compatibility update with R61/T61" and no other changes. Well, apparently something did change :(

Learned my lesson: once again, if it ain't broken, don't fix it!!!

I had flawless wireless with original 2915abg and AC for months, but recently even if AC and wireless status shows connected in sys tray, with 100% strength data will not go through, I can though ping the IP all right. Never did any drivers updates, nor AC updates or other major software changes just before it all started. No obvious too, as cordless phones, micro ovens and so on. So far the only remedy I have to disconnect in AC and immediately connect again, it will stay on sometimes for minutes, sometimes for hours(not that often). When I'm wired on mini dock the connection is stable. At one point restarting router help significantly, but not for long though. I start to blame D-Link router, but am not sure what to think no more after going through your posts.
BTW what range you are getting with n card? My concern is not as much speed as range. Hope the n card is compatible with T43 too.

Which D-Link are you using? I went through a bunch of Linksys (for G) and when got my T60 w/N-card tried Linksys, Netgear, and DLink. Only Dlink DIR-655 does the job. Just an advice if you go with DIR-655, stick to firmware 1.02 (the latest v1.03 with N-draft v2.0 is shaddy).

for now I use WBR 1310, but if Atheros a/b/g/n is compatible with T43, I am going to get is and look for some suitable router, hopefully will keep me connected and nor disconnected
