I know there is a big discount for Visa card holders. Is there anything else I should know about?

Has anyone every used this discount. The link sends you to the general Lenovo site with regular "Save up to $470" comment along with this specific for Visa, "Plus your program discount". Anyone know what the "program discount" is. On the Visa site above it says "Save up to 20% or more", but I doubt that's above the "up to $470".

I called the number on the Visa page but I don't have time to hang on hold. Anyone try this and see what the discount really is?

    As configured... I saved 5.8%.
Tried another configuration with all the expensive upgrades... saved 6.7%.

I used the Visa discount for my first Lenovo order. Later I discovered that I also have an EPP discount through my employer so I've been using that, but the Visa discount is virtually the same.

I didn't look at how much it saves, but it's definitely a better deal than the stock Lenovo product page and it looks like it will be valid for a long time! Combine this with FatWallet, but it cannot be combined with Tailormade because it forces you to pay with a Visa. It's for anyone who doesn't have an EPP and doesn't have an Amex.

Does Lenovo offer any kind of education discount? It'd be nice if I could stack the Visa and an education discount together.

I don't know if you can stack it, but at least here in San Diego the UCSD bookstore has the T61, WXGA+,7300, DVDRW, BT, 1G RAM, 120HD for about $1330, model 7659-XAU:
    http://bookstore.ucsd.edu/computers/hardware/notebooks.htm

That's a pretty good deal if you want something right off the shelf, it has pretty much everything I'm getting on my T61. If they have any in stock, I'm going to try play with one.

Check your school bookstore for local prices. The www.msu.edu bookstore had an even better deal.

Worth repeating. Anyone can get SPP, it is not validated and subject to audit like EPP is.

How do you sign up for Tailormade? Whenever I click on the link from lenovoforums, it sends me to a page with login/password. I can't find anything related to signing up.

It's an opt-in program from American Express cardholders (most, not all cards are eligible to be enrolled for Tailormade). I don't have a URL on-hand, but look for one that sends you to an Amex site.

Thanks everyone for this thread - I didn't know any of these discounts existed! I have both Amex and Visa, which one saves more? (Doesn't Amex have also warranty advantage over visa?) What does " SPP" stands for and how to get it (one poster says everyone can get it)? Thanks! :)

AMEX extends the standard warranty to another year. You can read more about it here:
    https://www124.americanexpress.com/...e_ALLCCSG_SharedDetails&type=intBenefitDetail

EPP is only for employees or an employee's friends and relatives. If you know someone who works at IBM or Lenovo, you can ask them for their ID and it'll save you another 15%. If you don't know anyone, you can also use the SPP discount, which is 5% off.

Directions on how to use SPP, FatWallet, and AMEX Tailormade:

Thanks for the quick reply sp00n! I meant "SPP" not "EPP". I don't know what exactly the letters stand for (just found out: shareholder purchase program). I'm going to look at the link you provided! :)

Just an FYI, if you use SPP or EPP in conjunction with a coupon, make sure to double check the price on your email confirmation and what they actually charge your card, even if everything appears to work at checkout.

THere have been a few cases around here where when we placed the order, the coupon showed in checkout, but then changed not to reflect it in email confirmation and when they charge your card.

One guy had his screenshot of the right price at checkout, but was denied the price match. Another's coupon disappeared after checkout, called about it and was told those coupons are for actual shareholders, and they'd have to verify (even though as skibunny said they are usually lax about it, you just never know though).

What you have to do if they drop your coupon, is submit an independent quote for them to price match after it ships, even if it is their (admitted) glitch. The screenshot of your order alone isn't enough (I even had the email from fatwallet cashback showing the correct purchase amount that came from lenovo!)- didn't matter, would have still been screwed had I not saved a different order number to submit for price matching.

The catch with that is, if you used a coupon and it expires in the meantime, you can't build that exact same configuration at the exact same price. So my advice is, when using a coupon- right before you order, save the order number of a different cart with the exact same specs and price- if the price of the one you purchase changes, then you have that other one which will be the same to submit. If I had not done that, I'd be stuck because my particular coupon DID expire during my fight w/CS.

Not to scare you, just be on your toes. THey treat it as you have something to prove when it's their admitted mistake.

SPP stands for shareholder purchase program but % of discount may change as it is sometimes 15 % and sometimes 5 % , and I checked with Lenovo and there is no limitation for using it like EPP( employee purchase program that limits only 20 order/year for that employee , IBM/LENOVO employees can use that for their family and friends and you need employee ID# and their last name to use it )
