    why not the Targus model that lenovo sells on it's web-site

    I have the Lenovo Super Multi-Burner. I love that it only needs a USB cable. Bought it when it was on sale.

    The targus DVD-Writer from lenovo you can find in other stores under the brand targus not lenovo and thus much cheaper.

    Buy this and put in any drive you like. I've used one myself. It powered off the USB port on every laptop I tried it on.

    ZaZ, does the model you linked to have the ability to boot an X40 or X60 in order to install OS or anything?
    Looking to be free of the X4 ultrabase for good if I so choose...

    I can tell you I used it to do a clean install of Windows XP Pro on my T41 and T42. It worked fine, but I can't say if it'll work for sure. I'd assume so, but you know what happens then.
