or you just pay 50% more and get the same thing? $90 on 2GB module compared to $60 in crucial.

    Nope.

Lenovo won't void the warranty if you upgrade your own memory with modules purchased elsewhere.

didn't know that. really thought that the warranty was the only good reason. although in my case it's just one module, so you can always remove it before sending it to repair.
I can't understand the link you gave. is it supposed to show some data?

No, Lenovo doesn't care where you get the RAM from - it's freely replaceable. I would go with the cheapest PC3-8500 1066MHz DDR3 RAM (with a CAS latency of 7, which is stock) you can find.

That link was automatically created by NBR, the poster didn't insert it.

The links are pretty annoying, useless and point to random machines.

I don't mind a full ad between posts, but this links really hurts usability. I wonder what is the conversion rate for them. i'm sure it's almost zero.

anyway, thx for the answers on memory.

Agreed. It’s one thing to litter the page with ads—and another to mislead the community with ads that represent/are now exactly identical to URLs that a poster might embed for reference/to help clarify something.

    Shame on NotebookReview.

I just bought a Lenovo X201 (3249-2EU) from JR (downtown ny store) and I was wondering if I could just upgrade it to 6gb without worrying about warranty. Thanks everyone!

btw.: I don't mind the ads, but they should be different from standard, reference links (like a double underline like some sites use).

ColMaki - memory purchased through Lenovo is more expensive because it's thoroughly tested and covered by the system warranty, which in many cases means you'll have a replacement the next day in the event of an issue.   outside of that there are no benefits.   using aftermarket memory is no problem.

Zeratul - yes, you may upgrade without voiding your warranty.   memory and hard drives will not affect a system's warranty.

for future reference, you can use Coupons, Deals, and Cash Back Shopping - FatWallet.com

they have %5 coupon and %6 cashback. they always have great deals there.

I didn't made the link to look like it look now. NBR you should really stop with this technique or no one will posts links on this board. don't change what I've written!!
