I'm planning to buy a T61 and the pictures posted here seem that the notebook is pretty chunky. I carry it around moderately. I'm looking for pictures of the T61 with size comparisons, such was comparing the notebook with an average size bagpack and palms. Thanks. :)

let me put it this way: I bought 14.1" (4:3) T61 last week, and this is by far the nicest laptop that I've ever seen/used (and I've seen a lot). there's a bunch of reviews on here with nice pictures if you still want those, lol

chunky?? these are slim/lightweight machines my friend. Your best bet is to g to a best buy/ circuit city or a micro center to see them in person...pictures never do well for thinkpads

there are two versions of the 14". A wide screen and a nin-widescreen.

It's true that the 14" wide screen version seems a bit chunky. The 4:3 version though is really a slim and small laptop. probably the thinnest you get.

Thanks everyone. I didn't know the widescreen one is bigger. The comparison between the 13.3" shows that the t61 is that that much bigger, which is good.

Does anyone know if the t61 has the infamous santa rosa cpu whine? How long is the shipping in Canada?

yep..all cpu's in that category have that whine if throttled down to the 1mghz-1.3mghz range

keep in mind that the WS is wider..but also shorter..whoever says that the standard screen is slimmer...do you have any data to prove this is so? from what i know..they are all the same in inferior to superior height. The t60's were slightly slimmer due to their lack of a roll cage for the lcd

so the whine won't appear if the cpu is working hard?
