Does anyone know or have any idea about the exterior dimensions for the T61 15.4" notebook with the 9-cell battery. In all likely hood i'm sure the 9-cell battery will stick out from the back, as it did with the T60 series. Any ideas about overall length, width, and thickness?
I'm still debating between a 15.4" notebook and a 14.1".

A 15.4 screen (measured diagonally) with a Wide Aspect (16:10) would be roughly 8.2" x 13.1" with a total viewing area of 106.6 square inches.

Is your issue with footprint, aesthetic, battery life, or fitting in a bag?
My experience says that there is always enough footprint available in the world, unless you're maybe flying 4th class on United every other day, or flying to the moon.
Aesthetics has always fallen second to function for me, don't buy pretty slower cars, buy the car that's fastest, strongest, turns best. For a 5% ewwww factor, you get 45% more battery life? Worth it.
Battery life. You're either going to have only a few hours to run that giant 15.4" screen, or another maybe hour and a half to two hours with the 9 cell. Determine what your minimum battery life requirement is based on your activities. I do starbucks a lot. I don't always get a power plug. Therefore I'm going 9 cell, plus the ultra bay battery. I study for 3-6 hours at a time.
If you can't decide, spend the extra 100.00 to get both a flush and a 9 cell, and for 100.00 you have peace of mind of always having the one that is either sexiest, or lasts longest, nor will you have to pay shipping in the future for the one you thought was better. Both is usually best when cost isn't that big.
I have a Louis Vuitton Bag. It fits 15.4, and 14.1 equally well. You can rebuy a bag to fit the probably biggest or second biggest electronic investment of your life. (3,000.00)
Good luck. -
Thanks for the replies. I will be using it as both a desktop replacement and a travel PC mainly for my continued studies in college. The minimum amount of battery life i'm looking for is 4hrs. That part shouldnt be a problem with the on-board Intel graphics chipset and the larger capacity battery.
I had a chance to try out a D820 for about a week a couple of months ago. I LOVED the size of the screen, but felt the exterior dimensions were just a tad bit large (14.25" x 10.4" x 1.4"). My North Face surge backpack will handle a 15.4" notebook, and a 14.1" is not a problem at all.
What i'm worried about the most is the sheer bulkiness of the notebook while seated at my universities smaller desks. I am heavily leaning towards the 15.4" notebook because of the screen size as i find it much more comfortable to work with as compared to the 14.1" (my sister's work computer is the Z61T). But, i need to know the exterior dimension of the T61 15.4" before i make my final decision.
If it's anything like the T60 15.4", then 14"L x 10"W x 1-1.25"H should be a good estimate (The T60's dimensions are smaller in all areas compared to the D820).
The 14.1" would make portability much easier, but a 15.4" would be much more comfortable to work with.
Does anyone know how much the 9-cell battery stuck out past the back of the T60 15.4"?
Any dimensions for the T61 15.4"?
