Has there been any news on further delays or release dates for the Y580? I've been looking to get one for my gf for a while, but given they were supposed to release some time in June, June starts in 3 days, and Lenovo hasn't announced anything (even preorders), I'm growing concerned. I've also read some things about gimped GPUs (OCed 555m marketed as 660m) which concern me. What do we know?
-

I asked to a live chat representative on the Lenovo website and he told me the y580 would be live on the US site by the end of june and shortly after on the Canadian site.

And for the gtx660 I guess we won't know until it comes out.

Hope it helps!Last edited by a moderator: Feb 6, 2015

Yeah, the live chat reps keep giving me the "we don't have any information before you do" line.
-

Wow, end of June. Potentially another month-long wait.
-
IKilledYourHamster Notebook EvangelistI am interested in this laptop but does anyone know if the full HD screen will come in matte finish?
-
IKilledYourHamster Notebook EvangelistI'm not sure if anyone is interested but I spoke to a Lenovo live chat support representative to find an answer.

Well, I'm disappointed but I hope the screen will be a nice one.

It's already in stock here with two versions:

 i5-3210m, 6GB ram, 750GB hdd, FullHD, gtx660m 2GB DDR5 - 1200USD

 i7-3610qm, 4GB ram 750GB hdd, FullHD, gtx660m 2GB DDR5 - 1350USD
-
IKilledYourHamster Notebook EvangelistI don't think they are in stock. Lenovo will be shipping the laptops to those resellers within the next 2 weeks.
-
 In stock where?
-

 Check my location.
-
Ah. Well the Microsoft store has the y580 up for pre-order at a real decent price ($1200 for the i73610, GTX660, 1080p screen).

Does anyone know if the 660gtx in the y580 is gimped in anyway (like how the 555m was gimped in the y570 or the 640 in the y480)?
-
IKilledYourHamster Notebook EvangelistMicrosoft store provides the technical specifications the others don't. Thanks for the link. It looks stacked and the price is great.

 Here's a screenshot from a Y580 owner:

If it's on Microsoft's store for preorder I wonder how much longer it will be before it's on Lenovo's Site for preorder. I'm pretty excited about getting one.
-
Ugh... a 5400 RPM drive? C'mon Lenovo, at least give us 7200.
-
Thx for posting the screenshot kirr.

AR - Pretty sure 7200 drive will be an option
-

Nice!! Been waiting for this model to be released for a while, pretty excited!!
-

Just ordered my Y580 today and and would pick it up tomorrow. Specs are exactly the same as quoted above, albeit with the 5400RPM drive and free 4GB RAM upgrade (8GB total). Also comes with a built-in digital tuner card; don't know how useful that'll be considering I've already got a good HDTV.

BTW, if I live to be a 100, I wouldn't understand US prices. I am paying USD1650 for the above speced machine. How can you guys get it cheaper when I am living in the mother country of said manufacturer? It just doesn't add up.
-

 Looks significantly downclocked.

GPU only by 25MHz, but memory by a whopping 750MHz.

Does anyone know how the Y580 keyboard stacks up against the MSI GE60?
-
Aw, that is really disappointing. G*d dammit Lenovo! I can't say I am not surprised though. i guess I'll have to go with the gE60.
-
Pretty sure that GPUz just counts the base memory clock, not the fact that it doubles again for being DDR5, so the effective speed there is 2500 Ghz.

In fact note the 80 g/sec bandwidth GPUz reports there- that reflects 1250 base memory speed quadrupled for being DDR5.

In fact that is 500 Mhz faster than what Notebookcheck reports (they are wildly inconsistent in their memory speed listings anyways).
-
 hmm. great to hear!
-

-

hows the heat on that thing?
-

Real world battery life data would be great too.
-

Wait that cant be right, my now RMAed dv6 with the gt650 had a gpu clock of 735...
-
the y580 is now up on the US site

 Let the games begin!
-

Shows up on the Canadian site as well IdeaPad Y580 15.6" Laptop | Shop | Lenovo | US

Any possibility there will a lower price in the next few weeks?
-
price of the same specs in US is $1039.20,in canada is $849.00. different coupon, different price...

Do all of the models have the backlit keyboard?
-
 Yes. That's for sure.
-
Damn, and I just ordered a Y480... for the same price I could have gotten a better video card.

Although, I did specifically want 14"...
-

I don't think they're shipping yet, so you can probably still cancel your Y480 order.

Also if you want a 14" with a decent GPU, you can take a look at the Asus N46VZ, I would have gotten it over the Y580, but they're in stores yet, and I'm not sure how much it would have cost.
-

Does it have 2 hard drive bays? If it does is the ssd they send it with just an ssd in the second bay or is it an hybrid drive? Thanks!
-

I'm not sure if the SSD part of a hybrid drive. If it's a standalone part, it's likely an mSATA chip.
-

I saw 2 post with different GPU clock speed for GTX 660M card ! one with 405MHz posted by Kirr and another with 835Mhz from neworiental now reading the specification for this gpu should be about 835 MHz both GPU and Shader Unit and about 2000Mhz the clock of the memory !
So what value is the correct one for the GPU, Shader and memory in the Y580 video card ?
-
Link? I havent read anywhere that it is gimped?
-
 superparamagnetic Notebook ConsultantOfficial Nvidia specs:
 GeForce GTX 660M - GeForce

 835 MHz GPU, 2000 memory.
The 1250 MHz read by GPU-Z should correspond to 2500 MHz ddr clock, so it looks like the memory is overclocked. This is confirmed by looking at the bandwidth numbers.

Kirr's post can't be correct since Kepler's shader clock is the same as the core clock.
-
Is that a good thing or a bad thing?
-

Good thing performance-wise, but I'm not sure how much of a negative effect it will have on battery life and heat footprint.
-
Oh okay, cool. I don't really care about battery life (I mean as long as it's bout 3 hours with light/class room use) since if I'm playing a game I'll be at home with it plugged it, same thing for heat, it'll always be on a desk/table so whatever.

Ordered mine last night, pretty excited!
-

I'm annoyed that Lenovo are not planning to release to 580 in the uk
-
JuiceForTheSoul Notebook EnthusiastFFS, they're not? I've been looking forward to this laptop for about a month. GRRRRRRRR.
-
AlwaysSearching Notebook EvangelistWhy do companies not sell everything they make everywhere? I dont get the logic for this when your talking about computers.

Are there some regional requirements that a computer will pass in one country and not another? Is it taxes, tariffs, or customs? Or just dont want the hassle of supporting that area of the world?

It would seem after you invested in the actual construction of the computer it would cost almost nothing to make it available to anyone that wanted to buy it. Even if that meant direct sale to the public.
-
it's annoying but I suppose you can get it through a reseller in US or even on ebay.
-

Could you recommend a reseller that might ship to the uk? The ones Lenovo recommend don't actually have the 580 listed

The thing is that the deals on the Lenovo web-site are very good.

 Thanks
-
Sorry I don't know any good reseller. In US there are tigerdirect, newegg. Also you can talk to sale rep at the US site lenovo.com to see if they are willing to ship a machine to you. I used to order things from US to Canada, and had to fax forms and pay tax to clear the custom.
Any Y580 News?
