I have a new T510 on the way and Have some concerns with the reports of the high pitched whine.

Are there any T510 owners out there that did not experience this noise?

I am not as tech savy as most and do not as if you have to immediately disable this, unplug that, adjust this, adjust that on a brand new machine for $1K+.

The wine is associated with the cpu throttling down during battery operation. If you plug it in the wine goes away. If you tax the cpu the wine will diminish on battery in my experience. This is not a defect and will be seen on all systems with Intel chipsets.

Yeah, when on battery, but not at a level that bothers me. Anyway, this heavy black brick sits on the desk most of the time.

And the palm rest makes cracking/squeaking noises... Watch out for the weak fit-and-finish and the thinner plastic!

Pathetic situation, isn't it? "Big ticket" does not always mean "just work".

I ordered and received a thinkpad t510 i7-620m in October. I don't think I get any sort of CPU whine and the only noise that resembles a whine comes from the HD. No creaking anywhere. The keyboard is almost "too" stiff if you can believe that.

I get the whine even when using AC sometimes. I get it all the time when on battery or when I'm using my usb ports (ac and battery). The worse whine is when I'm on battery and using a usb/bluetooth mouse.

Well, lets hope I get one of junkimchi's T510 siblings. Anyone put a Dell e6510 side by side with a T510? If so do the Dells tend to have a better build quality?
