    Thanks.

I'll stick mine on the scale this evening before and after installation of the SSD (dont think the HDD adds much more weight, but we'll see). Coming from a 6pound 15 inch Dell, the T420 feels like a feather weight. I briefly had an Envy 14 and that felt heavier than my T420, the Envy 14 is rated at 5.2 pounds.

Sprtnbsblplya, does your charger get real hot? I touched mine last night while the laptop was charging, not hot enough to burn, but surprisingly hot. Whats nice about the AC adapter is its very small.

In summary they reviewed the T420 as average or sufficient. The biggest let down is the display though given Lenovo's track record I can't say i'm surprised. Though that display flexing is a real concern, a case for the return of the LCD rollcage?

It gets warm, not hot. It only gets warm when I'm really cranking up the CPU like giving Milkway@home 100% of the CPU. Otherwise I've never noticed it. Powerpoint and Word don't exactly flex the muscle of a SB i5.

Display isn't awesome, but it is sufficient. I knew it wasn't going to be awesome going into it though, Thinkpad T series were never known for their displays. That's why I have an external monitor at home.
There aren't enough USB 3.0 devices out there to really complain that much, IMHO. All my gear is 2.0 anyways, don't plan on buying new stuff as 2.0 is fast enough for me. It has eSATA though.

Mine doesn't flex too bad, they're probably applying a lot of pressure. That is with moderately gentle pressure, I'm not gonna push it though. I can't imagine my T420 in a real world scenario where it will ever be subjected to much pressure anyways.

Yea, but I see people grab laptops by the lid and carry it around. My wife does it. I want to cry every time I see someone treat a machine like that. I want to report them to PETA.

There's no LCD roll cage for the T410 so I would assume it be the same for the T420.

    - only if you don't know how to change software settings! if you are OK at that, and images (text included) are correct size, the denser images are much easier on the eyes than the less dense. set right, nothing is easier on "old eyes" than high PPI screens.

Quick question, but is there anything worth getting off the original HDD before upgrading it with a SSD (and more RAM)?

Booting off a USB stick and I'll be getting copies of the Drivers from the Lenovo site now that they're up.

    Thanks!

    amtbr,

How's the text quality on the HD+ display? 'Are they clear and sharp? I'm do lots of documenting writing and reading. Color and viewing angel is not important.

    Thanks

Is the HD+ display the 1600x900 matte?

Thinkpad T, X, W series use matte displays.
