I need an additional AC Adapter for my T61. I am going to buy one at ebay.

My current T61 Adapter indicates that it is Lenovo Adapter 65W 20V. Is it true that any Lenovo Thinkpad Adapter 65W 20V should be working for my T61? Is it true that model number is irrelevant?

    TIA!

yes, the adapters from prior thinkpad models will work if thats what you are asking. the model number on the website is 40Y7696, its 39 bucks, which is a pretty dam good price if you ask me considering the fact that a "universal" from targus costs around 100

Some of the ThinkPad X40/41 computers were delivered with 65W adapters as well (pretty unsual, since they use 72W adapters usually), and they do NOT fit T6x, Z6x and Lenovo 3000 x series. The connector is thinner and does not fit.

I dont know how much you would save on that power adapter, but I wouldn't want to save $10-$15 over the OEM adapter and risking my $1000+ laptop. :D

If I buy one from ebay, it is very like that the model number is different. Basically, I want to ensure that Lenovo Thinkpad 65W 20V AC adapter (bought from ebay) will work on my T61.

So my understanding is that the model number is irrelevant. Correct?

I've noticed that my 90W adapter doesn't get as hot as the 65W one. And that 65W one gets HOT.

The difference between the 65W and the 90W is the 90W is the one you'll need for a machine with discrete graphics (i.e. you have a graphics card). Graphics cards are power hogs, and using a 65W with a discrete machine is not supported. As for the whole 72W/65W distinction, everything T60 and above takes the 65W (integrated graphics) or the 90W (discrete or integrated). Everything below that (T4x, T3x, T2x) takes either the 56W (integrated) or the 72W (integrated or discrete).

Question about the plugs. I have a 65 or 70 watt universal adapter from Targus (BOTH my gf and I forgot our AC adapters on a trip) and I'm looking to use it for my new T61 (might as well get some use out of it). Does the T60 tip fit and power the T61 as well? I know for a fact the T4x has a different size but don't have any experience with t6. Thanks

I have to disagree with you on this. I'm using both the 65W and 90W power bricks on my T61 with the Quadro gfx card. If the 65W power brick is unsupported, how could I still use the machine? The machine still works fine actually, the charging of the batteries are just slower though.

    Cheers,
    Nick
