Hi,
Im a bit disgusted with myself for purchasing a t420 laptop 2 yrs ago and using it probably 5 times...what a waste!!! I can't seem to leave my old battered t500 machine which has been great for music software with ssd & 8gb ram. Such a waste of money, i think its alot to do with me not making the transfer from T500 with software migrations and such. But possibly i can't stand the t420 screen!!! anyway enough bickering..i have to make a move now...otherwise pointless purchase.
So i have an ssd 256gb in main and original 500gb hd in caddy. My music samples are pretty much taking up space in ssd, so i was wondering would it be suitbale to put an 256 msata ssd as a 3rd drive to make more space? any disadvantages or brands i need to avoid for compatibility/speed? or should i buy sdd for the ultra bay?
i'm looking at this as msata seem to be cheaper than the ssds

Sure, you can do three drives. I say if you've got a a SSD for the boot drive, speed for storage is not essential unless you've got a specific need. Buy a drive from a reputable brand and you should be good. There's little practical difference between drives from a performance perspective. All SSDs are fast. I've had small OCZ drives in my desktops for three plus years and they're humming along nicely.

excellent i'll take your word for it! thanks as always...yes my specific need is pulling samples (audio format) i.e orchestral instruments for play back of scores and notation...streaming on fast disks helps performance in host programs for us composers..It's the kinda bottleneck, inc ram. but ssds make up for that.
but good to know that lesser brands can do as good job...i was always under the impression that other brands where not 100% safe...except intel samsung crucial...just hear say. I have no proof.
Cheers! -
Well, OCZ and some other brands get ragged on in part because the after sale support wasn't as good as the premium brands, but they cost less, so it's a trade off. I believe the failure rates were a bit higher as well, but failure rates for all SSDs are pretty low.
Any DAW latop users here? Recommendations for sdd/msata storage options?
