    Hello everybody !

Pretty much everything is in the title of the topic. I'm looking for a 14" in replacement of my HP NC8430.

I'd like it to have a HDMI and USB 3.0 ports.

Budget : up to 1500 dollars

Any models fitting those requirements around ?

The T420 doesn't have either HDMI or USB 3.0. The T420s has a USB 3.0 in the back but no HDMI as most ThinkPads have a DisplayPort.

Kindly refrain from posting if you're both unwilling to be patient and have no idea what you're talking about.

The Thinkpad T420 does not have USB 3.0 in any configuration. The Thinkpad T420s (a more expensive and slimmer 14" Thinkpad), however, does have USB 3.0. None of the Thinkpad Edge laptops have USB 3.0.

None of the core T/X/W-series Thinkpads has HDMI, instead, they have DisplayPort, which can easily be converted to HDMI through a <$10 passive converter.

the x121e i3 and x1 are the only ThinkPad that have hdmi. X1 also has USB 3.0. But none of them are 14 inch.

T420s would be the closest match, though you need a Displayport-HDMI adaptor which isn't that much of an inconvenience.

I got a cheap displayport <--> hdmi cable that fit the bill nicely, audio and video both worked. plus, through amazon, i got an hdmi cable as well for just a buck fifty more. Less than $10 for two cables, hooray! :)

The displayport --> hdmi adapter for some reason didn't work on my x220, but did on an hp elitebook..

My X120e also has HDMI, and the entire current Thinkpad Edge family has HDMI, as far as I know (including the Edge E420 and E420s)...

Thank you very much for all this information !

Makes my choice between an Envy Beats 14" and a T420s even more difficult !

Envy and T420s is at the polar opposite, one is fully orientated towards the general consumer market while the other is orientated towards the ultralight full size portable business market.

So basically you should ask yourself is bling (Envy) more important then functionality (T420s) or vice versa? once you have an idea of what you want out of the laptop then you can make the decision as to which one you want to buy.

With such variance in product range there are some other great 14" units to consider.

    A 14" MSI X460DX has HDMI+USB 3.0 as will the Samsung Series-7 when it launches on October 2nd. It also offers a 900P panel. A 14" Toshiba R840 has USB 3.0 and a displayport and a 900P LCD option. All these 14" systems weight < 4.4lbs.
