My IBM X40 was giving up the ghost due to the crash of it's USB ports. Totally inop for whatever reason. So I was looking for a new laptop and was slightly leaning toward the Sony SZ series. Probably would have gone that route except that it didn't have the IBM keyboard and in my judgement, typed kind of crappy. Also, hate the touch pad.

So, one day about 2 weeks ago I tooled on to Costco.com where I saw a IBM X41 (1.66Mhz with a 60GB drive and the docking station (sans optical drive) for $999.) It's a straight X41 (no tablet) and the biggest thing is that it has my IBM KEYBOARD! This is a brand new computer with the 3 year IBM warranty. I figured they wouldn't last long at this price so I snapped one up and sure enough, a few days later they were no longer available.

I realize my new laptop is NOT dual core and not as fast as the X61 or the Sony SZ models, but it works for what I want. A light, easily carried laptop. So, anyone shopping for a laptop should at least take a quick gander at Costco.com. Best of all about Costco is that they will take it back no questions asked for 6 months after purchase.
