    Hi,

I bought a T60 last December with XP Home. I decided to check out the Vista upgrade and I'm up to the part where you order Vista from Moduslink. I only see the 32-bit versions of Vista Home Basic and Vista Home Premium available in the order page.

This is pretty disappointing to me. I was looking forward to being able to take advantage of the 64-bit capable chip that I bought. Has anyone else had this problem? Will the T60 run the 64-bit Vista?

My T60 has the T7200 processor and ATI 1400 video adapter.

I'm tempted to say forget Windows and try Linux. Any thoughts on getting that to work on a T60?

    tia,

Once you receive the update, you can request the 64-bit version at a small fee.

Yes, the T60 with c2s processor will be able to run 64 bit Vista but I can't confirm that the IBM ThinkVantage softwares will.

64-bit will not make much of a difference for 90% of applications. It will only make video encoding and things of that nature, faster.

In my opinion, it won't become a standard for another 6 years so I don't care right now.

From what I understand, Vista is the last desktop OS that M$ will release in 32bit. The next Windows will be 64bit. That is when people will be forced to make the transition.

Thanks for the responses. I'll order the CD and see if I like Vista. If I can figure out how to get the 64-bit version I will order that. If I have problems I should be able to go back to XP.
