I have set my battery charging to start at 50% and stop at 90%, but one question I have, maybe silly, but does this set up actually work when I turn the system off, or do I have to set it hiber/sleep or leave on until its charged to 90% ?

Short answer: All the time, and no.

Long answer: It should work all the time, as the charge thresholds are stored in the chip in the battery (hence why only certain computers support the feature). Occasionally, the laptop chooses to ignore the "charge to" threshold for some reason--I've had this behavior a few times on both my T500 and X120e, where they charge to 100% instead of 95%. No biggie, but I haven't really been able to reliably reproduce the issue.

    Good to know MidnightSun.

I'll see if the charge goes above the 90% threshold for this T420 as you noticed on the T500.

    Many thanks
