The Notebook Review forums were hosted by TechTarget, who shut down them down on January 31, 2022. This static read-only archive was pulled by NBR forum users between January 20 and January 31, 2022, in an effort to make sure that the valuable technical information that had been posted on the forums is preserved. For current discussions, many NBR forum users moved over to NotebookTalk.net after the shutdown.

    Annoying Conexant Audio Taskbar Icon

    1. Right click the icon and close the application.

    2. Navigate to c:\program files\conexant\smartaudio This is where you likely have it preinstalled.

    3. Change the filename of smaudio.exe to anything else (i.e. 'smaudioislame.exe')

    I know it's a little unsophisticated for a solution, but it works! I was expecting a missing target error upon reboot, but to date there is nothing.

    Why not kill it in the Startup folder, or with Start > Run > msconfig? Or grab CCleaner and Tools > Startup and nuke it in there? Just a suggestion (to all and sundry).
