I'm having soo much trouble with my T61. I'm not sure what I did..I'm not sure what happened but now the windows won't even load up. I get this blue screen message now> page_fault_in no page area..something like that.
Please help!
-
Try to be more specific with what exactly you did once you got the laptop and what the message on the blue screen was.
-
Try to get yourself a spare sodimm DDR2-667 to swap yours and to see what happens, maybe geniune memory is faulty on arrival
-
I didn't do a thing. I didn't download anything if not prompted to. During the first day I got the blue screen showing:
A problem has been deteced and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.
A process or thread crucial to system operation has unexpectedly exited or been terminated.
After that tried to install the upgrade your windows vista that came with the system, hoping that might make the blue screen away. The computer restarted itself and then I got another blue screen showing:
IRQL_NO_LESS_OR_EQUAL
And after that I restarted my computer and it asked me if I want to choose windows start up or windows vista. If I choose windows start up the blue screen will pop up saying IRQL_NO_LESS_OR_EQUAL. So I chose windows vista and tried to do a recovery. I tried to recover to two different dates and both times it failed. Message popped up telling me recovery wasn't complete. Then finally I restarted my computer and now if I choose windows start up I"ll get the IRQL_NO_LESS_OR_EQUAL and if i choose windows vista I"ll get a a blue screen with the message page_fault_in no page area.
Now I can't even use my computer. -
I don't know if people will agree with me but I say just reboot your computer and as it is turning on immediately hit F11 key repeatedly, it should go to windows recovery mode. It should be a fairly self explanatory menu, just choose restore system to factory settings, maybe that will just set everything right off the top. If not, they sent you a bum one I think and they should replace the unit. Once again, just my opinion. Sorry to hear you actually got a hold of a T61 and this had to happen, all the shipments seem delayed. I personally went with a T60 (for my purposes, and standard screen) and have been lucky with the unit so far. Anyway, regardless hopefully you'll get sorted out soon. Good luck.

Several others have also experienced a blue screen error (not exactly the same as yours, though) with the T61. Here are just a few, as an example:

Seems to me like a lot of people are having this issue. Search for "blue screen" or "BSOD" in either these forums or at http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewforum.php?f=29 and I'm sure you'll find the solution. -
Yup, most are reporting some problems on the T61 with the factory OS install. You might want to try following one of the fresh install guides floating around to get a truly fresh install of Vista or XP (Whatever you are running).
-
-
if you have another system, you might want to burn yourself a copy of memtest86 and test out your ram. since it runs on bootup and not through windows, it should work.
-
fresh install
-
-
What do you mean fresh install? Windows won't even load up. It starts up..wait wait..and then blue screen.
-
Formatting your hard drive does not depend on windows. However formatting isn't for a novice. If you have any computer friends I would ask them to format it for you.
-
Is there really no other way?
-
Format and make sure Turbo Memory is disabled if you have it, until Intel says they have working drivers.
It's lame how Lenovo is making people do this though. Thinkpads are suppose have a clean, working os ready to go since they're business notebooks. -
Just to see what would happen I inserted a windows XP disc that my friend gave me. And it coudn't install it. A message showed up that said no hard drive or something and it can't install. So maybe there is a problem with my hard drive?
-
Okay I went to the BIOS Setup Utility and then HDD diabnostic program. And when I clicked on ultrabay hard disc drive a warning message popped up saying it is not found.
-
do you have a fingerpring sensor on your laptop?
-
Yes I do have it. Why?
-
This is driving me crazy. I think i'm going to call up lenovo.
-
Win XP won't install because it does not support SATA disk natively. You need a driver for installation or set the SATA into compatibility mode (in the BIOS). In any case there was information in one of the threads and also there is Lenovo support page about this topic.
IRQL_NO_LESS_OR_EQUAL happens then a windows system function is called in a wrong windows state (IRQ level is to high for given function). To me it sounds like a software bug most likely in one of the drivers (video or storage - based on info from this forum). -
-
I was getting an IRQL_NO_LESS_OR_EQUAL error on my desktop a while ago. Originally I thought it was my hard drive so I reformatted it and reinstalled windows... didn't work. Everywhere I looked it seemed like the errors I was getting referred to a hard drive problem but no matter what I did I couldn't get the error to go away.
After a bit of a struggle I decided to roll back all of my drivers one by one and it turns out that my network adapter (integrated with my motherboard) didn't like the drivers I gave it. After I gave it the older drivers everything seemed to work.
Since you can't get in to windows I'm not sure what you can do but I'd try and get all of your components to stable versions.
Also: don't these thinkpads have some system restore button? Have you tried that? -
-
Is there no other way to recover?
-
I read the booklet that came with it. It says to hit the thinkvantage button and then you can recover. When I do hit the thinkvantage button during startup there is no recover option!
-
uh did you finally call tech support?
-
I've been so busy. When I do get home they're closed. But I did just email this guy asking if he can send me a recovery disc of some sort.
-
who said F11? I believe it's F12...
-
Okay..F12..it says peparing boot device..so i guess i'm waiting..i'll get back with you guys
-
still waiting..starting to wonder if my laptop is even responding..it still shows ..preparing boot device list at bottom left corner
-
okay..when i hold F12..the boot menu pops up...showing 2: ATAPI; 4: ata hdd0; 5: PCI LAN
What do I do? -
How come I don't see the recovery option!!
-
when you press F12, you should see an option that allows you to select "boot from CDROM drive" or something similar to that.
You must have your OS disk in your optical drive. -
Just send it back as defective. It sounds like it has more problems than can be solved by a format. In which case you're far better off just sending it back under warranty. Formatting will be a headache if you've never done it before. The hard drive could have gone bad causing the restore partition to corrupt.
-
I don't see anything like that...yeah I guess i'm going to have to contact them. -
Yeah, send it back to the manufacturer. Bottom line is you shouldn't have to be dealing with this mess on a new laptop.
Also be firm that you want some sort of compensation for this headache.
Demand upgraded memory, or something else. -
I bought this laptop from pcconnection.
-
But it is still under warranty with Lenovo. I think they all come base with at least a 1 year. Just give Lenovo a call.
-
well i managed to install windows xp ..and it works.
And now T61 won't work!
