I wouldn't call myself a major audiophile, but I know a thing or two about audio(rotel pre amp and amp, mirage speakers, sony ES dvd player).

I am familiar with many speakers needing a proper break in, but I didn't take my thinkpad very seriously.

When I originally got my laptop, I had to crank the volume all the way to the max(using the volume button and the windows controls as well) to get something that was audible in a quiet room.

Today, I was linked to the new "will.I.am" song and was amazed by how loud this bad boy went @30. After replaying that video a good 12 times(the girls were soooo hot in it!), i popped in a dvd and got the same results. Just to make sure I wasn't going crazy, I restarted my pc and played a divx backup of a dvd I own (LOL) which originally had very low volume levels and what do you know...It was audible at 35!!! I had to watch this flick originally using headphones because the speakers at max volume was barely audible.

Bottom line is, play your speakers at a low volume for a few hours straight for a few weeks and you might just see some improvement.

i highly doubt these tiny speakers need "breaking in", there has got to be a different explanation...more like new drivers, vista update, audio/video file, settings

Exactly how i felt, which is why I cranked up the volume on the very first day i got the laptop. I havent run system update in quite some time, the only thing that I can think of is that vista ran an automatic windows update while I was away.

But if that were the case, alot of people that run vista would've noticed a difference as well.

The sound driver itself is dated 3/7/07 in the device manager.
