    Hi Everyone,

I have a new Y580. I noticed that my framerates drop consideraly low when I do not have my charger plugged in. Games become barely playable. Once I plug the charger in, the framerates increase drastically. I have set all my settings for max performance.

Is this normal? I am worried about overcharging my battery and ruining it.

    Thanks!

In "Energy Management" set the battery to "optimized battery health."

Yes, notebooks of all kinds throttle when on battery, otherwise they will fry the batteries.

    it's the power draw!

Start with the intel cpu specs. Eg an i5 can draw around 56-60watts running in turbo mode....not counting the cd, hd, lcd, etc!

Let's say you have a 48watt battery. You will not want to draw at a higher rate than 48watts continuously (liion batteries don't like this). Besides this, battery may not safely deliver 60+watts continuously safely.
