just a week or so back i was looking at y500 and they had a bunch of negative reviews. particularly regarding trackpad.
i was thinking of buying it but those made me doubt it so much that i backed out.
then i was looking at y410p which then again has issues in this case wifi. :/ i am confused what i should pick right now. my budget is about $800. can stretch it to 850 max.
i was looking at the asus g46vw on bestbuy for 800. it doesnt have i7 (has i5 3rd gen) but has awesome durability from what i have heard. i dont probably need i7 anyway. it seems like a good laptop since it is built for gaming and mostly has very good customer reviews.

Asus G-series is far above Lenovo in terms of build quality. Although I would personally recommend MSI machines (preferably whitebooks/barebones), if you can't find one for a decent price, Asus may not be bad at all. But keep in mind that with very few exceptions (G73JH) they're pretty much un-upgradable on the GPU-side.
Meanwhile, Lenovo has been dropping in my eyes for a while now... poor cooling on the Y580... pulling out the Y500/Y510 mere weeks after launch... unavailability of the ultrabay GPU's... censorship on their website etc. -
thanks for the advice.

with these specs it comes to $803. slightly worse graphics card but i can live with that i think. but i dont know how it would actually respond to the graphics card addition. overheating perhaps? -
i was actually looking at 15.6" ers but they all seemed less budget friendly. so i backed out from them.

The trackpad on my Y510P is pretty horrid. I'm getting used to it, but its a major step back from my older Macbook Pro. Everything else about the unit is very good (other than battery life)

It's called damage control. Same thing with their fourms, you can't even post anything negative or voice your opinion.

You know I don't work for Lenovo, or have ANY ties to them. I'm just a "most of the time" happy, Y470 user.
I've written a lot of "witch" posts at the Lenovo forum, and I've never had a problem with the mods. In fact, if you don't use bad language, or extreme threats against Lenovo's reputation, your posts won't be deleted. They probably won't be answered, or properly addressed by Lenovo either, but they will keep the posts in the queue. So, keep on trucking.
Some examples: (Read the whole thread to see how "nasty" it gets).
WWAN and wireless card BIOS whitelists? Lenovo, CO... - Lenovo Community
Complaint about Lenovo Customer Service - Lenovo Community
Horrible Customer Service - Never seen a worst cus... - Lenovo Community
And my favorite "not answered post"
Support site content is out dated? Let's discuss..... - Lenovo Community
Lenovo does not know the definition of the word "discuss", so I spelled it out for them, and I didn't even use any "cuss" words. -
Im actually very happy with my y410p, only real complaint is the touchpad, but chances are ill be gaming/designing with a mouse OR doing my productivity using the keyboard.

I've been trying to write a review for weeks on the Y500 and the same "maintenance" page comes up every time. So they aren't allowing new reviews and they're deleting the bad ones huh? Shady chinese company with the most pathetic/unprofessional customer service staff I've ever come across.
All the negative reviews removed from lenovo (usa) website! :O confused. :S
