It's a battery that attaches to the bottom of the laptop, if I'm not mistaken.

Hmm, I thought it would be flat for some reason. I wonder how it'll work with a dock

lead_org, looking forward to expanding your signature with many new models? ;)

BTW which ones do you use from that vast array of ThinkPads every day?

Well you will have to probably take it off when you dock it. Because it kind of looks like it will cover / attach into the docking socket.

This will be attached to the notebook IN ADDITION to the regular battery. And I guess you wouldn't need the extra juice while you are docked?

Yeah, I suppose so. Seems like an inconvenience if you regularly dock and undock your laptop though and have to remove the slice.

I hadn't even heard of the V360 and V460 yet.. it looks pretty nice

I read this article and found that USB 3.0 will not be put on these new Thinkpad Series!!!! As the author said

"These machines do not feature USB 3.0 yet. Intel declined to provide USB 3 support in this year’s chipsets so many vendors will be skipping adding USB 3.0 on all but their highest end machines where they will be adding extra USB 3 controller chips. We have picked eSATA on many machines, so those of you needing higher speed external storage will have options."

However, I found this article saying that

    http://www.techtree.com/India/News/Lenovos_Refreshed_ThinkPad_Series_Unveiled/551-108467-893-2.html

    "Apart from Gigabit Ethernet
, USB-eSATA combo port, FireWire, DisplayPort, and 5-in1 multimedia card reader, W510 has 4 USB ports of which one will be USB 3.0 port."

    Which one should i believe?

Do you believe the Lenovo blog, which is sponsored by Lenovo, or some random Indian news site? I think the choice is obvious. Also, as lead_org said, don't do cross-posting. It's very rude.

vkyr – I goofed. Yes, the W510 does have 2 USB 3.0 ports. At your prodding, I went back and checked with the disclosure and I don’t know how I could have missed something so significant. Apologies, and thank you. I have fixed the text above. "

A slice battery is a flat battery attached at the bottom of the laptop that span the entire bottom. Look at the HP ENVY 15, it has slice battery. It is usually an extended battery. Instead of the old traditional piece that hangs on the back.

First of all. Sorry for duplicating posts.

Yes, The choice's obvious, in this case, the random Indian news site is the one because W510 comes with USB3.0. :D

The Lenovo blog, which is sponsored by Lenovo said it doesn't

    Maybe he just forgot ;)

i was thinking it would be like the slice available on the Dell E6400...
hmm this one seems smaller? I'm guessing its an additional 9 cell plus the system 9 cell plus the ultrabay battery! = 18hrs

Nah, it won't be a Thinkpad, even though it's a "small-business" notebook. Maybe if it had a trackpoint! haha

That's what I thought when I first read about it, but then I saw the concept pictures posted earlier in this thread. And I think they're going to discontinue the ultrabay battery on all the new Thinkpad models, save for the T410s.

I wonder if the T410 will still be compatible with the ultrabay batteries on the T400 and earlier models.

Ok, great whatever--slice batteries. But I've seen those on the equivalent business-class HP laptops and I'm not impressed. Those significantly increase the dimensions of the laptop to make it fatter. They don't fit well in smaller laptop sleeve cases because they are so not rectangular shaped anymore. Plus they also don't dock, so then you have to unhook the slice battery and charge it seperately. It sorta defeats the purpose of the dock (which is one step connect/disconnect).

I'd rather do with 2 9-cell batteries (carrying a spare) and the ultraybay battery. Having two in at the same time is nice because then you don't have to hibernate to swap the main battery. Also, I rarely if ever use the optical drive when I'm portable, especially because any disc that would use it otherwise, I just duplicate as an image on the HDD (better power consumption that, too!).

I guess I'll have to wait a see till the 7th..
