    Hey guys,

I followed the clean install guide on this forum to the letter and I have a working and uber fast Thinkpad T61p! Except for this problem...

When I use the Fn + home/end buttons the brightness of the monitor doesn't change. Windows' utilities for doing so aren't able to do it either. When I press the keys the OSD comes up showing the current level of brightness and I can in fact bring it to the lowest and highest values but the actual brightness never changes.

I have the Thinkpad power management driver installed but not the ThinkVantage power utility.

How can I fix this? Any help would be appreciated.

Oh cool thanks for that! Weird though, since I am running the 163.44 drivers from laptopvideo2go (which seem to be the newest) and the modded INF. I'll try reinstalling the hotkey drivers; if that doesn't work what do you think I should do? Which laptopvideo2go drivers are you using?

I'm currently using the 163.71 drivers.

If the hotkey drivers don't work just keep messing around with the video drivers.

The worst case scenario is you'd have to roll back the drivers to the ones that work.

    Good luck!

Well I installed those drivers and they worked! I didn't download them before because they weren't on the driver download page, just the forums.

    Thanks for your help!

I'm glad the clean install guide helped you out, but using modified drivers is hardly following the guide "to the letter". When people post stuff like that and leave out those details it gives other people that are considering a clean install the impression that they might have issues if they try a clean install. Just sayin' :)

I have considered using modified drivers myself, but even though you might get some performance benefit, you can almost always plan on loosing some functionality somewhere when you are using drivers that were not designed for your specific laptop.

    It's awesome! I couldn't be more satisfied. :D

I have the WSXGA+ screen and I'm having no other problems.

Hm, yeah when I think about it again you said to get ALL the drivers from Lenovo's website. It just never crossed my mind that I had heard of laptopvideo2go from somewhere else...

So sorry about that. Your guide is really great and I definitely recommend it to everyone!

    No problem Orlics.

I never know what drivers to try... I couldn't find the 163.71 drivers. Where are those? And why not use the 165.01 drivers?
