Hi Guys, appologize if this is in the wrong forum, just looking for a little advice. I've been waiting for a good configuration/price to buy a T400 ( in Canada) and Friday night I found a configuration that I liked. Long story short I ordered one Friday night and received confirmation it should ship Nov 4th, I wish I had upgraded the HD to 160GB and the OS to Vista Premium. I have the config I want saved in my cart and I'm curious if I should order it now, or wait to get confirmation that my original order has been cancelled. I've read a lot of stories that it's tough to cancel orders, and credit cards being charged for cancelled orders etc.......the sale I have saved ends Nov 3rd so I don't want to miss it....Should I make sure I can cancel the original order tomorrow morning before ordering?...Thanks in advance

call Lenovo tomorrow, as if the order is cancelled and then order the new unit the same day. and Premium is the way to go.

I recommend upgrading the HDD yourself. at newegg.ca there is a 500GB one for 150bucks.

I would get confirmation from Lenovo that the order is cancelled before ordering again, if possible.

I would say get the bigger hard drive, but upgrading Vista is just a waste of money.

Thanks for the replies guys, I'm just going to keep it, as noted it's probably best to just change the HD on my own. The deal I had in my cart is no longer valid so I don't want to miss out on a T400 for under $800 Canadian even if it is stripped down, I don't game, just need another laptop for personal use/web/music/email . Here are the specs

    Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T5670 ( 1.8 ghz 800MHz 2MBL2)
    Vista Home Basic
    14.1 WXGA TFT
    2 GB PC3-8500 DDR3 ( 2 DIMM)
    Intel GMA X4500
    80GB HD
    CD-RW/DVD-ROM
    6 Cell Battery
    $768.60

Now heres what's bothering me........Vista Basic......if I were to buy a new hard drive and buy a copy of XP pro is there anything I would need to copy from my laptop before installing them?

Replacing the drive is usually cheaper because you can almost buy an equivalent drive for what Lenovo charges to upgrade. You can sell the old one to offset the cost or buy the ultrabay to use it for backups.

Yes, get a bigger hard drive from Newegg. Make sure you look at the rating of the hard drive before buying it, and also look at the prices of different sized hard drives to see which price point is the best. Sometimes you can get a lot of extra space for a few extra dollars, and you never know when you might need it.

Also, if you would like an operating system that supports the Vista Home Premium extra features and is completely free, please check out Ubuntu. You can run it alongside Vista Home Basic. I know quite a few people that have saved themselves money by using it, as well as avoided all the problems that come with Windows. Since I started using it a few years ago, I have never looked back at Windows :)

I really agree with this. I went for Vista Business 64 since I wanted to use 4GB of RAM, but I barely ever use it since I use Linux 99% of the time. I really could have saved my money if I went for Vista Basic. Its up to you, just giving you my experience. If you use Windows as your main OS and want to be able to see the 4GB of Ram, then go Vista 64, if not then go Vista basic and save your money.
