I'd like to get an 8-cell battery for my X40.

Lenovo does not have them anymore (they have the slice, but I worry that will make the notebook too fat).

There are lots of 8-cell batteries on eBay, but I imagine a faulty battery exploding on my lap and that makes me trigger shy. So I figure you guys could share your experiences.

Who knows a trust worthy source for ThinkPad batteries.

I believe johnlumpkin purchased a battery from a third-party site before and had a good experience with them - I forgot the exact site, but you can either PM him or wait for him to show up here :p

i'm not sure if buying a refurb (dented and scratched presumably means not new?) battery is a good idea...

I believe the plastic shells of the dent/scratch batteries are old and may have minor physical damage, but the cells inside are new.

If I am in USA, I would jump on that. Haven't heard any bad things about outlet batteries, but tons of good experience.

I am looking at the x60 battery in outlet store and drooling.

I bought a scratch and dent battery. It had zero cycles and was 1/4 the cost.

I got a quality battery for my T40 from CalCellular. They have good generic batteries for a lot of ThinkPads (current and old). However, they don't seem to have any x40 batteries at the moment.

Yes, I bought a X200 last weekend with the 20% off coupon in the outlet. Did I really need it? No, but it was too good a deal to pass up. I plan on dropping in one of the AFFS screens so I'll have twin FlexViews. I've not gotten my confirmation email as of yet, which has me a bit concerned, but we'll see how it goes. I've still got a ways to go to catch up.
