When purchasing your IBM/Lenovo notebook, did you also purchase additional warrenty or do you think the brand is so good, you didn't need it?

It depends. How much is your laptop going to cost. I do not spend more than 10% of the total laptop cost on a warranty. Extended warranties should cover accidental damage. If you are not going to get the accidental damage, I do not recommend the extended warranty.

I bought mine with my American Express card which extends the warranty an additional year. I'll probably get rid of it by then so it didn't make sense to buy the additional warranty for me. If you plan to keep it for a long time then perhaps it may be worth it. You might want to check out the warranty guide.

Do the Thinkpads from Lenovo US not come with 3year warranty anymore?
For Lenovo Canada, only the low end Thinkpads (and 3000 series) come with 1 year.

The CTO models on Lenovo's websites come with a one year warranty. They do allow you to upgrade for a fee. Certain preconfigured models come with a three year warranty, depending on machine type.
