My original configuration does not have the FPR on the palmrest. Would it be possible to swap it out with one that has the FPR? I've heard some people say the FPR has an extra connector that connects to the motherboard, and therefore will not work. Can anyone confirm?

As far as I am aware, the FPR ferrys its data through the same flat connector cable as the rest of the palmrest does. I would be very surprised if they changed a motherboard based on such a simple component. However, this is all speculation on my part.

I'm pretty sure all T400 motherboards support the FP reader, although I'm basing that off of my experiences with the T60/X60 series, all of which came with the connector for the FP reader on the motherboard. All you should have to do is buy a palmrest with the FP reader on it, then plug and play. Since the FP reader is a pretty low-cost option on the T400, I don't see why they would have a separate motherboard revision just to support the FP reader... it would drive Lenovo's costs up quite a bit if they did it that way.

I haven't opened my T400 but once to install extra RAM, but if you're really interested I'll open mine up and see how things are set up.
