I cannot seem to enter encrypted or secured webpages, including e-mail logins, a 'checkout' for a company's website and cannot seem to figure out if this is an Internet Explorer issue and if so, how it can be fixed, or whether this has something to do with the ThinkVantage settings. I set process start ups to default and now I seem to be restricted in my webpage access AND also, when booting up and logging in, I prompted to enter my fingerprint once, then often times the Windows password than again my fingerprint, before the desktop loads up. It wasn't like that in the past but now logging in is becomming a bit of a pain.
Any suggestions to these two issues would be appreciated.
P.S. I want to avoid downloading FireFox as I have enough processing running as is. Perhaps if I had an OEM CD and did a clean install I would consider installing this.
Thank You

Hi Momo. Been a while! I don't have an OEM of firefox. As well as it helping to diagnose/pinpoint your problem, you might actually prefer firefox. As I recall, dont you have SXGA+ ? Many of us here strongly prefer firefox to IE on high res screens because of the ease with which you can change textfont size on the fly.

I saw something similar to this a couple years ago. Somehow a piece of software that was installed removed the encryption files for Internet Explorer which meant the user couldn't log into any encrypted sites like Yahoo, bank accounts etc. I had to re-install it I think off the Windows disc. Opera is another browser option if you don't like FireFox.

Thank You for your responses. Do you think this software will be on the recovery disks burned off when I first used my machine? I just didn't want to download an additional internet browser as my machine seems slow as is.

And this is what the first page on the newly downloaded Firefox reads:
Unable to connect
Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at en-us. www.mozilla.com.
* The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few
moments.
* If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network
connection.
* If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure
that Firefox is permitted to access the Web. -
Do you have a firewall?

I haven't installed anything new in that respect since I received the machine. Symantec is expired, but still 'on the machine'. I have the 'Windows Security Center' Firewall 'ON'.
I don't think this is a Microsoft Firewall, the Windows Security Center appears to only 'detect' what is on your computer via a third party. Could it by Symantec's? -
I try opening the Symatec client firewall via Programs> and it encounters a problem and needs to close. Okay, I would like to do a clean install but without the OEM I think my only options are using the back up CDs and this software...tell me what you think:

Yes I had tried that, didn't work.
I ended up restoring my machine to a point-in-time about 4 months ago. Now everything appears 'default'. The internet sites appear to be working now though, so that solves that issue. Now I need to still optimize my machine to boot up and run quicker. -
Uninstall ie and restart machine make sure you download a new version of ie before doing this. Then reinstall ie it should fix it I recommend ie7.

Did you by any chance mess with client security solutions.
If so it seems that you have enabled password manager.
go to start menu >Thinkvantage > client security solution >
on the Advanced menu open "manage security policies" > click on "open pasword manager"
It should be set more convenient mode!! This should fix the finger logon crap and maybe all the problems. Let me know if you need anymore help. -
I think I am too late I just saw that you restored your machine I am certain my solution was the answer too bad I was stuck at work all day!!!

I usually find things go better once Symantec is gone. There's lots of free firewalls if you are running XP.
Accessing certain webpages...ThinkVantage?...
