I had the drivers install fine when I first did a clean Vista install, but one thing led to another and I needed to reinstall the display drivers. Now I am getting this error message when I try and update them from Generic to Thinkpad:

I have UAC off. I have tried using the Admin account. I am absolutely stumped as to why this is happening. Any insight would be appreciated.

Your screenshot doesn't work. Try imageshack.us

Try uninstalling the driver in the device manager, then reboot, then re-install.

I've tried that a bunch of times. Once I reboot, Windows Update says it needs to install drivers for it, so I let it try and I get the same problem.

Ohhh. I wouldn't ever let windows update mess with hardware drivers. I only let it update windows updates.

Have you tried downloading the driver from the lenovo downloads and drivers page. That is the only source of drivers made specifically for your laptop.

Yeah, that image was from me trying to update through device manager. Ive tried windows update and manual install. Neither work. I'm guessing a permission file or reg key got corrupt or something to that effect.

Try turning UAC back on. Reboot. Install the display driver and then turn UAC back off. Reboot. You should then be in business. :D

Have you tried the "have disk" method? Try this (only skip step 2 since you are not using a modified inf file): http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=11997

You might want to try putting the video driver in it's own folder then right click the file and select extract here (you might need the free utlity winrar to do this) . Then using the guide above. Navigate to this folder during the "have disk" method.

In your original post you said "one thing led to another". What was that?

Yes I've tried have disk. I also tried putting it in a folder on my desktop. I've also tried renaming the files from TPLCD to TP_LCD (along with the associations in the inf). That just made another copy in the filerepository that I cannot delete.

I wasn't noticing color profiles load so I thought it may be my gpu drivers (since I had to install the 163.44 over the default drivers to get my brightness controls to work and I know thats not standard procedure) so I uninstalled those and then I can't really remember why but I ended up uninstalling the display drivers too. I have tried reinstalling them with the default 570m gpu drivers and with the forceware 163.44's to no avail.

I guess it's not really a catastrophic problem since display drivers just put a name and resolution to it, but it's still messy and shouldn't be happening.

Hello. I saw your postings regarding problems with installing drivers for your monitor in Vista. I am currently having the same problem with a new HP LCD. Like you said in your post, this is mostly just an annoyance, but I've noticed I can not play DVDs using the DVI connection to the monitor (VGA monitors work fine). I'm suspecting the bad driver may be causing this.
    Any suggestions?

    Thanks in advance

I remember I got it working right before I sent the T61P back. IIRC, I uninstalled the display drivers (was using forceware bioshocks) and then reinstalled the ones off the Lenovo website. Then the monitor would install fine.
