New T61 with a clean install of XP.
Access Connection software has stopped working.
First symptom was the Access Connections (AC) icon in the systray was unresponsive. The wireless was off and Fn-F5 would not enable it.
Second symptom was that Grisoft AVG complained about an AC .dll and suggested moving it to the Vault. I told AVG to ignore.
Then AC would not start. The splash screen would display and then it would hang there. Only way to kill it was through Task Manager.
Uninstalled AC.
Reinstalled from scratch - version 4.52.
Same behavior. Splash screen and hang.
Any ideas? Tips? Hints? Suggestions?
I'd rather not use the Windows wireless software. I prefer the Lenovo Access Connection software by far. Until now

I' wouldn't waste anytime and uninstall AC and reinstall it but not until and I did a microscopic virus scan on my disk.

It probably has to do with the last AVG update. I had the same issue and only when I uninstalled AVG was I able to access the Access Connection software.
I wasn't able to access the ThinkVantage menu either - via the button or shortcuts.
Edit: Just thought I would mention that I also tried reinstalling the ThinkVantage software ... it didn't work. Only after uninstalling AVG did the problem go away. -
Thank you JohnnyChan. I've uninstalled AVG and am about to reboot. Hopefully this will do the trick. I'll be surprised though since we have many ThinkPads here in the office and all run AVG. Maybe they just don't use it. BTW - the dll that AVG thought was a Trojan horse is anca.dll. The CRC checks out. It's a false alarm by AVG.

same issue here, install AVG 8.whatever, it does a system scan, finds 3 'suspicous' programs and 'heals' them, then AC refuses to work. The icon is dead on the taskbar, Fn+F5 doesn't work, wireless doesn't work, and eventually, the blue thinkvantage button doesn't work. I updated the wireless adapter drivers and updated Access Connections ( which does a remove and reinstall ) and thankfully everything is working.

That was it.
Unistalled AVG, reinstalled AC, and all was well. I've since reinstalled AVG and so far it's OK. If it flags that .dll again, I plan to move it to the vault and then tell AVG to except it as safe. Apparently you have to move the file to the vault before you can add it to a exception list. If this doesn't work, I'll report back.
Thanks! -
I hit this problem also and reported it to Grisoft. The virus database update on 4/28/2008 has the fix for this and ANCA.dll is no longer flagged as a false positive.
