New here, but plenty of experience with Lenovo software issues.

Just did a fresh install on a T61 and X61 w/ Windows XP SP2 using the published drivers and Access Connections 4.42 from the lenovo site. I know this is a minor thing, but you can create profiles in AC using a wired/wireless connection, where the profile "looks" for either a wired connection or wifi network that you have set to connect with the profile.

Problem here is that if you are connected wirelessly and go to plug in an ethernet cable, the AC profile will not disconnect wifi and go ethernet cable. Has anyone else experience this?

I called IBM/L and of course they have no clue, except to create different profiles for wifi and wired. We shouldn't have to do this, since it worked just fine in the past, even with AC 4.0. They want me to call Lenovo Experts Live and pay them to figure out their software. They must've finally gotten a clue from Microsoft as to how they can boost profits.

Any help with the profiles would be much appreciated. I have reverted back to older versions of AC without any luck.

I realize this wont help all that much - but I also found 4.42 to be uber buggy.

I'm running x64 - to get 4.42 working (period) I had to install the 'with wireless drivers' access connection package first. Oddly, it wasnt 4.42 as the download site had claimed (was 3.75b or some odd number like that). I then had to download the standalone access connections 4.42 and install over the 'with wireless drivers' version. This was the only way I was capable of getting 4.42 to work.

I had initially tried the standalone 4.42 install from a fresh vista install - it gave me some funky 'cannot run' error or something to that effect.

I found that windows boots significantly faster if you uninstall access connections.

That's bizarre. At least for XP I won't install AC without having the drivers installed first, then a reboot. There are different d/l packages listed here for Vista:

    http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-67283

I know that there is a clean install doc out on the board, but after going over this with Lenovo on the phone, I am fairly certain that this is the order for wireless install:

    1. Intel Chipset 5, reboot (first thing you do regardless)
    1. Hotkeys, reboot
    2. Power Mngr Driver, reboot
    3. Power Mngr Program, reboot
    4. Wireless Driver, reboot
    5. Test wireless radio on/off button using Fn + F5, if this does not toggle, then there is something wrong.
    6. Access Connections, reboot

Nozzle, I agree about not installing AC, although I do not want XP taking over for wireless mngmt. To get AC going faster at login, don't install it with the "allow wireless connection at windows login." You can also change this if you go into AC and go to Configure, then Global Settings, and uncheck the 2nd box.
