Hey guys,
I recently ordered an Intel 6205 off eBay (they were referring to it by the proper FRU, so hopefully it's a whitelisted one)
Everyone says that there's a significant improvement in performance, so I'd like to take some benchmarks before and after the upgrade to post here.
Can anyone recommend some wifi benchmarking software?
I'll be performing the upgrade at home, so there won't be too much interference around, but when I get back to University in January, I can try again with both. (We have a bunch of mesh networks and other congestion here)
I ordered it from Hong-Kong, so it probably won't arrive for 2-3 weeks.

I wouldn't expect much difference in normal use. The Thinkpad WiFi is probably a 1x1 (but I haven't seen the exact spec) while the Intel 6205 is 2x2 (two antenna). The Intel 6205 does give you the ability to consider the use of using Intel Wireless Display (after you've purchased Netgear PTV2000 or similar product).
If you were going to the Intel Centrino Ultimate-N 6300 from the ThinkPad WiFi, you would probably see a difference (as this has 3x3 antenna but you'd need the appropriate LCD to take advantage of the 3 antenna).
As far as benchmarking software, try
1. speedtest.net to check the overall speed
2. try transferring some 4GB files from laptop to laptop (or PC) -
From what I've heard, the 6205 is much better at dealing with signal interference and connecting to really weak signals.
I would have purchased the 6300 but I got the webcam installed in my computer so there's no space for the third antenna (or so Lenovo claims).
I remember seeing people posting graphs of overall connection speeds, signal quality/stability, and other such metrics when comparing wifi cards, so some software to do that would be awesome.
About to upgrade from Thinkpad Wifi to 6205, what's a good benchmark?
