    Hey guys,

I want to pull the trigger on the newegg 580, Newegg.com - lenovo IdeaPad Y580 (59345717) Notebook Intel Core i7 3630QM(2.40GHz) 15.6" 8GB Memory 1TB HDD Blu-ray Rambo NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660M but it's shipping with windows 8.

I found the aftermarket bios that allows full control of the computer including removing white lists for wireless cards etc.. but want to know if I'd be able to downgrade to 7, or be able to flash it through windows 8. If I can't run the aftermarket bios, I'm going to chose another laptop.

I am mostly going to use this for video editing, photo editing, some programming, and lots of browsing. My current computer is a 2nd gen i7 mac pro (i couldn't wait for the processor in a pc).. and miss windows. It will also be used for running custom software for reflashing ecu's on cars, datalogging, etc..

I really hope windows 8 doesn't come with a new flashing program.. or I am able to downgrade. Thinking of putting an ssd in there as well..

    Any input guys?

You dont need to unlock the bios to downgrade to windows 7... The operating system is on the hard disk and you can install any operating system you want.

I'm sorry, I guess the way I phrased it was off. What I meant to say was I've had my head in a hole in reguards to windows 8, and didn't know if it allowed downgrading etc.. Because I heard you wouldn't be able to install Linux a few months ago etc..

The other question was if a bios flashing program was available for windows 8, or if I'd have to downgrade to 7 to update the bios to the unlocked version, then reinstall windows 8..
