Ive done this before, but i cant remember if:

when ive downloaded the levnovo tool to get all the drivers, does it also install the software so that on bootup i can press the thinkvantage button and retrieve all my files (say if the OS was damaged)?

I cant see how it could, as that must be on EPROM or some other memory outside of the HD? Needless to say, i'm not using the HD that i originally ordered with.

I wish to do a win7 install, with no lenovo disks but to still get that piece of software

I think that the functions you're looking for are only available if you have the restore partition on your drive. Since you're not using Lenovo restoration discs you won't be able to use the recovery partition, unfortunately. In order o get that functionality back you'll either have to get install discs for your machine(but they'll only give you one for the OS your system came with) or use the original HDD(or clone it onto your new one) with your system.

Which machine do you mean, the X61 or X200? I greatly prefer the X200 as far as the display size and resolution. 1280x800 is a decent upgrade from the X61's 1024x768, IMO.

I don't ply WoW, but I think that the X200(X4500) will play it on lowish settings fairly smoothly. The X61 might be able to, but frames might not be that great.
