I noticed that ther is always new version of BIOS update
for T61 on Lenovoe support website. I am just wondering
why there are so many problems need to fix.
Last I updated the BIOS from verion 1.21 to 1.22. It
actually causes a problem: the system hang after Vista
starting up. I had to resintall the old version to get rid
of the problem. After that, I did not try to update BIOS
any more. My computer has been working perfectly.
So I do not trust the so-called new version of BIOS. I
suggest that you should not install the new version of
BIOS unless you have encountered some problems that
are fixed in the new version. Do not follow the message
poped from ThinkVantage Mantainence Manager.
The funny thing is in the latest version BIOS 2.07 for T61,
I noticed that one problem they fixed is "The system with
NVIDIA graphics chip may cause hang". But I believe
this is the problem introduced in 1.22!

Simplest,
Yes, I think this is the normal flow of BIOS updates for a new computer family.
I think it's overall....good.
I have older computers where the manufacturer no longer introducing BIOS updates....and I wish they were....to incorporate new capabilities like boot from usb etc.
So, I like the flow of updates. It means someone is still back in the factory! -
It is always recommended not to install BIOS update unless you are specically trying to target a possible problem in the first place
It's just not worth the risk to fry your BIOS like many users have been doing lately (do a search) -
update unless it is necessary. -
I agree. Don't ever do a BIOS update unless it specifically says in the readme file that it is going to fix a problem that YOU have encountered.
Also, it is always safest to use the bootable disk method to update the BIOS.
Also-Also, it is a good thing that BIOS updates become available. They are certainly relieving someones headache out there. And as alacrityathome pointed out, it is common for all manufacturers to release frequent BIOS updates for the first 1-2 years after a new model is released and it is comforting to know that tech support is working on issues.
