A few weeks ago I posted here trying to decide if I wanted to buy a new T61 or go with a Dell. My biggest concern was screen quality since I didn't want to get saddled with one of the grainy Samsung displays that everyone complains about.

After way too much over-analyzing I finally pulled the trigger and ordered a T61 with a 14.1" WXGA+ display.

Today I finally got my new computer, and let me just say that this laptop rocks. The display is awesome with high contrast, no graininess and a phenominal horizontal viewing angle. In fact, the only thing that restricts the horizontal viewing angle is that it's simply impossible to read a display that is being held perpendicular to my line of sight. Vertical viewing angle is good as well, for a notebook display. So I figure I must have the LG display, right? Wrong!

Since I'm in Canada my parts lookup on the IBM site is incomplete and didn't show what my display was so I downloaded PC Wizard, which reported "Monitor Type : AUOB141PW03V0 ". WTF!? Some googling, and nbr searching later I've come to realize that I have a AU Optronics, model B141PW03V0 display, which according to google doesn't exist. I did however find specs for the B141PW01 model here. I suspect this is the closest relative of the display I have, maybe even a predecesor. The specs seem to match 220 nits (my display is BRIGHT!), 400:1 contrast ratio and 90-degree horizontal viewing angle.

Does anyone else have this panel in their T61, and how does it stack up to the LG and Samsung panels? This forum is surprisingly sparse on AUO discussion (which I assum e means most people are happy with them. :) )

Or they're new. You seem to like your screen. Who cares what someone else thinks?

I had a T61 WSXGA+ and Lenovo 300N WSXGA+ before settling on my 14" T61. That was in three months, because I returned T61p and got a cheaper used laptop. Now I have my 14" and the display is way better than the two of them. It's bright, not grainy, and not too blue! I am very happy with this display. Not sure if I have the AUO display but it sounds like yours.

In the HP forum the AUOs are generally highly regarded. I had an AUO on my HP dv6000t and it was bright with a very good viewing angle.

I was like you. I was finally able to power up my laptop last night and the first thing i did after making my recovery discs was look up what screen I had. my FRU for the screen is 42T0339 and when i looked it up on the lenovo site, it came up as an AUO screen. I had never heard of this company, but their product seems to be pretty top quality. Extremely bright for a 14.1 WXGA screen.
