I have this question about the performance of ATI X300 64 MB video card. I notice that this particular video card on my T43 is not that great comparing with the ATI 9000 64MB one on the Gateway(specs in sig.) When I play flight simulator on T43, I can only get 15fps, yet with Gateway machine, it is 20fps. In addition, in full screen movie mode, it's not that hard to tell a big difference. Is this normal? Thank you for your replying.

I think it may have something to do with the Gateway having a lower resolution, therefore you see a higher fps on the Gateway than the Thinkpad.

I also play FS9 on my notebook... although it is an integrated extreme graphics 2 i do get frames around 15-20 in Chicago, and Seattle, but i can shoot around 40 at cozumel. Most settings on high except for clouds and draw distance.

Here i a link that compares FS9 to other GPUs, but i do not really know how revelvant it is to your case.

Edit: i forgot to mention, that i run at 1024x768 resolution, at 1400x1050 i would be lucky if the frames reached double digits at KCGX

    Ok, off topic I know...

When I saw KCGX I was sure I recognized the identifier, but I couln't put my finger on where I knew it from. I even went over to Airnav.com to search on it and came up blank. Then it hit me, that's Meigs field; or I guess was Meigs field.

I'm still really pissed at Daley for shutting it down, but at least I got to fly into there a couple of times before the bulldozers got it. I couldn't afford to do it often, but a couple of times a summer I'd commute downtown in my C150. I hope MS keeps it in their database, if just for the nostalgia.

You certainly shouldn't be seeing that sort of difference, even with the difference in resolution between the two...

This is a silly question, probably, but have you checked the Powerplay settings for the X300? If it's clocking down, then that would explain the poor performance.

I know... at least on my computer, the processor can handle very large textures fine, i have decent amount of ram. What really chokes up my game play, are the autogen draw distance, and the number of particles in the 3d clouds (Cloud Cover Density) on the screen. So if you can bear with a fairly open sky, try it out...

BTW: do you guys ever use real time weather updates any more, I haven't tried it in ages.

I checked the Powerplay settings, I believe by default, it's on.

Yes, I use real time weather all the time. But it's not really "real" time. I would say it has about several hours delay. Overall, it's a quite nice feature to play with
