Considering that dell seems to be getting ready to have a 512MB Radeon HD 4570 graphics card in the Studio 1555 do you think there is a chance of Lenovo going ATI HD 4xxx?

Of course it will probably within the next month or so things like this happen so fast once the cards become available.
its safe to say a lenovo with a 4000 card is on the way. I would love to see a 4570 in the t400 though. -
I think it unlikely they change the card in a ThinkPad until the next refresh. Perhaps a Lenovo branded notebook may get one.

Lenovo would make decisions behalf of business men and professional ___'s. i dont think a 512mb graphics card would be necessity for these group of people. 64/128mb ~ 256mb seems good enough.
Maybe a new line of Lenovo might. i dunno..something like Lenovo Turbo? lol -

It might be a possibility for the upcoming Lenovo IdeaPad Y450 and/or Y550, the replacments for the current Y430 and Y530.
Whether the existing ThinkPad T400/T500 gets the newest ATI 4000-series cards may depend on how quickly the ATI 3470 & 3650 are phased out. When the 3450/3470/3650 were introduced, the 2400 & 2600 models were ushered out rather quickly.....but I that may not be the case this time around....who knows? -
In watching the ThinkPads over the years, I haven't gotten the impression that they are ever very quick to jump on new graphics card tech for existing models.

Oh well! Maybe in 2010...

Considering that the Quadro FX 570M in the T61p (let's just forget about the T61) performs about the same as the Mobility Radeon HD 3650 in the T500 and Mobility FireGL V5700 in the W500, I wouldn't hold your breath hoping for an HD 4870 in the next ThinkPad refresh.
Also, the second digit is what really matters in the graphics card model number unless you're comparing several generations apart. The HD 4570 is better than the HD 3470, but it isn't an improvement over the HD 3650. The 512MB in that Dell Studio 1555 is going to waste in the 4570 because it only has a 64-bit memory bus. The extra memory is like a "Type R" sticker on a bone stock Civic with a rusting undercarriage.
I'll start paying attention if Lenovo puts a Mobility Radeon HD 48xx or even HD 46xx card in a ThinkPad. -
