    I am trying to clone a hard drive so that I can replace the drive in my T400. I used the TrueImage trial and it will not let me clone without buying the software

    What do you want anyone here do about it? If it's a Seagate drive, you can get a free download of DiscWizard from Seagate's website. It's a limited version of True Image, but I'm guessing would work for your needs.

    I don't expect anyone here to do a **** thing about it. BUT... most guides and specific posts about cloning and swapping a drive say to download Arconis True Image trial and to select "Clone Disc" option. That's what I did. I also tried the trial Easy Migrate's "Clone Disc"> Again, the limited versions do not allow this. Maybe they did in the past. Maybe there are other steps or choices that will allow me to do the same thing. But, I am not an expert in such matters. In following the guides and advice of those in the know, I try to stick with the suggestions.

    SO rather than expect anyone to do anything, I guess I was simply relating my experience. If this limit of the trial ware is something new (it also said it was only good for 15 days, which made sense to me), then it seems an important piece of knowledge. If there is a way to get the trialware to do a 'clone', such knowledge would also be helpful.

    I plunked down my cash and now own the software. Not a bad choice; we have some machines that have been hanging around long past their actual ability to function. I have a thing about letting my hard drives out of my control

    Might help someone->

    i imaged my t500 a couple of weeks ago. First I used Acronis v9 and it would not boot up from the cd drive. Then I used Acronis v11. It worked. Might be that v11 has more drivers than v9 and is able to recognize more of the hardware that is currently out there.

    Why not use a livecd or other linux distro to do this?

    Nope, I am very appreciative of help. But, when a reply begins "What do you want anyone here do about it?" that sounds not like help but like a bit of sarcasm or 'what can we do ya dork' sort of comment.

    If I misinterpreted, I apologize for my bristling follow-up. Tone is almost impossible to convey on the boards.

    Hmm. Not sure about your clone issue. I have Vista Business 32 bit and, once I had the full license for Arconis Easy Migrate 7, I was able to clone the drive.

    I have a Hitachi 5K320. I did not think to look for cloning software from the drive manufacturer
