Sorry if this is a dumb question but I don't want to "overpower" my ThinkPads.
On the local Craigslist there is a 90W power adapter for sale for $30. It's the 90W (FRU 70Y4659). Lenovo and Newegg will charge me nearly double that. He says it's rarely been used.
My question is: Is this safe to use with either of my ThinkPads? (See signature). Will it speed up battery charging? They both came with the 65-Watt adapters.

Yes, no problem at all.
I believe you mistyped the FRU (should be 40Y7659), but as long as it is a 90W - 20V ThinkPad adapter, you are good to go. -
Yes, you're correct. It's 40Y7659. Thanks for the answer.

the 90 watt adapter will charge the battery quicker, it also allows your laptop to run at full cpu speed even without the battery installed. You could also get the 135 watt adapter from the w510, but it is quite expensive.

You sure on that? He got a laptop with the integrated graphics. I thought both of those points only matter with the discrete graphics and for larger laptops than the T410. -
Well, I have the adapter now and it seems to work fine and looks new. BUT, it's not the 40Y7659 -- it's the 42T5000. Both FRUs have identical specs, as far as I can tell, and are recommended for the same models.
Does anyone know why the FRU number is different? Perhaps 42T is a newer model or from another manufacturer? -
I bought the Lenovo 90w Power Supply from Amazon Fresh (delivered with my grocery items) new for $30 about 4 months ago. Amazon Fresh and Amazon usually have the same price...

I haven't tried it with the T410, but the X201 does charge faster with the 90-Watt. And it's true that with the battery removed, the CPU will go to full speed using the 90-Watt but not with the 65-Watt. Again, not tested with the T410 yet.

I purchased a P/N 92P1113 90 watt replacement adapter for my thinkpad off ebay, and it was $9.13 shipped brand new. It's a must if your thinkpad came with the 65 watt adapter, as it does charge the 8/9 volt battery much faster. As said already, it also allows the unit to run at full power without battery.
