I got this error message after trying to run System Update 3 one day:
"A problem occurred while loading the System Update configuration settings. Please wait while System Update restarts."
When I click "ok" the message just comes back after a few seconds. The only way to stop it is to go into the task manager and close the System Update processes.
I tried uninstalling and reinstalling using the latest version from the lenovo website, but the same thing happens.
Any ideas on what might be going on? I tried a quick google search with no luck (a couple people got the same message, but no one had a solution).
I have a T60 running Vista business 32 bit. Everything else is working great. (I wasn;t even planning on updating any drivers, just wanted to see what was available, I check every so often).

I have the same exact problem on my T61p, I even uninstalled and re-installed thinkvantage and still could not fix the problem. It gets pretty annoying to have that message keep popping up, even when you close it. I would also like to know why this occurs.
-
I had this happen on a company laptop (T60) and couldn't figure out how to fix it. If you look at the System Updater logs somewhere on the HD, it gives a more detailed error... Giving this to Lenovo tech support may give them an insight.
-
Where are the system update logs?
-
ive had this for a while too, i havent been able to fix it, and its a pain in the ass. it used to work just fine.
-
Has anyone found solution for this problem? I have X61 tablet pc. One thing I found is that if I kill the process tvvukernel.exe it stops bothering me with its re-attempts to kill the system update process.
It kills the temporary annoyance. But the problem still remains. Lenovo system update sucks. -
Have any of you messed around with the automatic/manual services (in services.msc? I did, after reading the vista tweaking article, not sure if that is the problem, but its a hunch. I don;t have the time or desire to undo those tweaks to see if it solves it, unless I know it will. So if you did any tweaking let me know.

I have the same exact problem and would love to hear a solution.

I messed with the services.msc, it didn't change anything
-
i could never find a solution. Best thing I did was to do a clean install and never install that terrible Lenovo sotware again! You can link to the driver matrix and download only the things that you need.
-
I was on the phone with Lenovo today for nearly an hour and the only solution they could tell me was to reformat my hard drive and reinstall windows. No thanks.
There has to be a solution to this problem. Do any of you programers have an idea?? -
I could not find one, I gave up. It's not that big of a deal, not worth any more effort to fix. Lenovo should really know the answer though.
-
I think the updates are a really bad idea for exactly this reason. The service that I would turn off would be the update service.
-
The Rescue and Recovery program is also corrupt. All it does is bog down my hard drive space.
I deleted the RRBackup files to get my hard drive space back. However, the program will not open in windows so I cannot shut off the automatic restore points. I am considering reformatting through the partioned portion by pressing F11 on start up. Is this advisible? -
Anyone have an idea how to uninstall the Lenovo ThinkVantage suite since Windows Vista Business will not let me?
-
Why won't it let you uninstall?
-
I. When I go to Control Panel>Programs>Programs and Features in Vista and try to uninstall Rescue and Recovery it will not let me. It tries to load the windows uninstaller thing but just loads and loads and nothing happens....one time I waited an hour and the command prompt loaded and nothing happend. I had to force quit.
II.
A. Vista has so many minor problems I'm kind of sick of it. It might be a combination of the Lenovo Programs and Vista, but it is such a pain.
B. Another problem I have on top of 1) System Update not working 2) Rescue and Recovery consuming a massive amount of space on my hard drive without allowing me to uninstall is.... 3)"Can't collect Information. Cannot access the Windows Management Instrumentation software. Windows Management files may be moved or missing." underer the SYSTEM INFORMATION program that comes with Windows. I went to the Microsoft Messageboard and tried all of their solutions to this problem, but none of them worked.
C. Also, a 4th problem I had in the past week involved the error message "Connection status: Unknown Server execution failed" under the little network connection icon. I think it had to do with an update to my AIM. The solution to this problem I found here: http://www.iamdum.com/2007/11/09/connection-status-unknown-server-execution-failed/
Does anyone have suggestions?? -- should i reformat my hard drive?
PS -- I have the similar specs as Arkit3kt -
Try this for B.
As taken from an Experts-Exchange.com file:
Maybe try and boot up in safe mode to uninstall them? -
Thanks for the suggestions. I tried that one earlier. However, one problem I have is that when I am trying to delete the System31WbemRepository folder it says I need ''permission''. Interestingly enough, I am the administrator and only used on this computer. Any other ideas?
-
How about this?
-
Once I am in the comand prompt as the Administrator like you suggested it prompts:
C:\Windows\system32>
I am not that saavy, but I am not sure how to delete the aforementioned file from this point... -
Later update: Once I loaded the comand prompt like you suggested,
I went from Computer > C > System32 > wbem ... AND DELETED repository. I then restarted.
The problem still exists. When I go to the repository file now it shows the date modified and time as a few minutes ago, but the problem is still there. Perhaps I did something incorrectly. -
The bottom of this article might help: http://www.cybertechhelp.com/tutorial/article/how-to-delete-files-and-folders
-
First, thank you again.
Second, I realized I absolutely have no idea what I am doing. I try to locate that repository file once in the command prompt and I try to delete it, but I am unsuccessful. I attempted to follow those instructions you provided.
Vista should not be this complicated. I am so frustrated.
Also, in reference to the ThinkVantage issues, I have Microsoft .NET Framework version 2.0 but the problem still persists. -
I suppose I do not know how to "First locate the folder that you would like to delete."
-
Isn't the folder titled " Repository"?
-
Yes, I am trying to delete that folder.
-
I type in the Administrator Command prompt where it says
C:\Windows\system32> rmdir repository
I then hit enter. It reads "The system cannot find the file specified." -
I then hit dir and a lot of things stream in the command prompt and nothing happens when I check.
I must be annoying people with my idiocy on this thread. -
There is no idiocy. Many people are not familiar with command lines, including myself.
It's also difficult for me to help you since I'm running XP, not Vista. Please bear with me.
What exactly does the message say when you try to delete what's in that folder? Access denied? -
Here is what I do:
1. I go into services and shut off Wwindows Management Instrumentation.
2. I open comand prompt as administrator.
3. I type the bold:
a. C:\Windows\system32> rmdir repository
4. Below that, the command prompt reads the bold: The system cannot find the file specified.
I restart, nothing is fixed. I hate computers. -
5. C:\Windows\system32> dir is typed next.
It streams a bunch of files names and I cannot scroll to the top. What a pain. -
snicker, personally, I would boot into the recovery partition and restore your computer. I think something is corrupted.
-
Arkit,
I think I am going to do this tomorrow. Any reference guide on how to do this? Do I just hit F11 when the computer is loading to prompt the recovery partion?
Snicker -
You hit the blue button I believe. Everything from then on will be self explanitory. Also, don't perform a factory restore, instead, perform a custom install. That way, you can check or uncheck what you want on your system.
-
Lets hope the Rescue Recovery program does not corrupt the clean install. Otherwise I will be ordering recovery discs from Lenovo.
-
If it screws up and you need the CDs. Tell them you went through the process of making a set but something went wrong and it won't let you make them anymore. They should send it to you for free after that.

Had the same problem - and found the solution to my problem ( T43 with XP )
