Seriously, there's a moth in the LCD on the used T400 I just bought. It's about the size of the tip of the lead of a #2 pencil. On top of that Lenovo says that won't warranty the repair. I maintain that if the LCD had been made correctly it never should have gotten in. I wish the heck I could get a decent picture to post so you all could see.

what do I do? I have two years of warranty left.

hum, Lenovo and HP or Dell don't warranty against foreign objects within the LCD unless you have accident protection warranty.

Since you got it second hand from someone, maybe you should take it up with the seller.

How does a moth get into the LCD? An ant or a small such-like insect, I can understand (with difficulty), but a moth?

the original owner of the laptop, probably used the LCD as the grain silo.

    These are thunderflies most likely?
Very small, almost microscopic insects. Because they are so small, they are able to crawl into tiniest gaps between TFT panel and backlight diffuser - mainly because no screen is hermetically sealed (power wires go in, etc).
They are able to find tiniest gap because they are attracted to light - so they just go to where light from backlight seeps out.
If they die inside, it becomes a big problem, because you won't be able to take 'em out and will have a "dead pixel" kind of dot on your screen. If you see one wandering inside your screen, wait till it gets past the edge, then apply a gentle pressure to this area (killing it). Better than allowing it to die in the visible area.
As a precaution, try not to open windows during times of year they active (July-August I beleive). Also running a brighter light in the room with your screen will always help - they will be attracted to this other light instead. Don't work in the dark room!

I live now in the area when they are the regular problem, and familiar with good amount of people who got such problem. I even seen one inside my Dell monitor at work 3 weeks ago - luckily it quickly got out.

If somebody sold you laptop in such state and didn't warn you about it - this is quite dishonest behavior, like not warning about a dead pixel.
