My T60p just died
Actually it's the GPU I think. I need to hook it up to an external monitor to verify. I think I know the answer to this but the FireGL is an integrated GPU correct??

with respect...(insert TAPS)....

Good thing there's still a few months of warranty left though, right? If you plan on keeping it you may want to extend while you can. Bummer about the screen. My T42 had the IPS. Sometimes when I'm staring at my R60's crappy screen, I kind of miss it, though not the weight.

Where will you lay it to rest? On ebay

If your machine is still under warranty this should be covered.
I had a video card issue on my T40 (connection became separated from the board due to flex [the roll cage was developed to fix this]). IBM/Lenovo fixed this for me under my 3 year depot warranty and it served me well another 2.5 years. If you still have warranty coverage, you should pursue that route. -
I was really assuming the warranty was up. I rarely ever pay the extra costs of extending warranties. Anyway I hooked it up to an external monitor and it worked. Now I assume it's the LCD or the inverter. Since I could get the inverter for $40 I ordered one. If that doesn't work I'll turn this into a desktop.
Now I wait for a 14"-15" AFFS+ screen that lenovo will release.....soon....I hope. -
Don't hold your breath on a 14"-15" AFFS+ display. The tablets only have them because vertical viewing angle becomes the horizontal when in slate mode and nothing but IPS/FFS will work properly. -
I would expect that the technology would have to improve, besides using LED backlights.

According to the tabook, 2623DDU has a three year warranty. It may be worth checking into.

Who knows, maybe they'll give you a new screen.

Now that I had some time to look at the issue further this morning the problem it much greater than I originally thought. Keyboard is unresponsive, finger print reader is unresponsive but the trackpoint works. I don't have a compatible keyboard to plug in. I'm going to go to my local electronics store and buy an external hard disk enclosure to get my data then hopefully lenovo will repair it. I live near all the big stores (Best Buy, Tiger/CompUSA, Frys), any recommendations on which enclosure? I'm going to go search in the after market parts forum to see what everyone is buying these days.

First your asking for a moment of silence then you find out that it can be fixed.
Never become a doctor -
I doubt it can be fixed. I don't know what lenovo does in this situation. Maybe they'll replace it with something in their outlet center but it wont be the same.
-
Wow! I got it back today and I think this is what you would call factory refurbished. Everything is new! The only thing I recognize is the bottom of the casing. They replaced everything! LCD, keyboard, palm rest, all the platic peices They even replaced the eraser head of the mouse. Thanks Lenovo for the new T60p and thank you ZaZ for telling me that my warranty should still be good! I need to go renew it if possible.

yeeeaaaa the doctors were able to revive it even though its heart had stopped
