    Hey all,

I'm STILL looking for a laptop for uni - my two choices are the Dell XPS m1330 and the Thinkpad T61, but I am a bit discouraged by the wait times for the m1330. Consequently, I have a few questions about the 14.1" T61.

    1) I am a buyer from Canada and it seems the Canadian Lenovo website is more limited than the U.S. one (i.e. cannot customize the machines), does anyone know any way around that?

    2) How does the nVIDIA Quadro NVS 140M compare with the m1330's Geforce 8400GS?

    3) Is it possible to get the integrated digital camera in the 14.1" T61 model? There is no option that I can see on the Canadian site.

    4) I've heard some bad things about the battery life of the 14.1" T61. Anyone care to shed any light on this?

    Thanks a lot guys.

    1. Customize on the US site and get it shipped to someone in US and then get it shipped to you. The only down side would be how you handle $ transfer and additional shipping cost.
    3. Yes
    4. 2.5 hour on my first full charge on the 4 cell with normal web browsing with wifi and bluetooth connected.

That's decent battery life, good enough for my purposes. Actually, the T61 that you have configured in your signature is pretty much exactly how I want to configure mine, did you do it through the Lenovo site? If so, is it true that they aren't selling the WXGA screens anymore due to shortages?

I would like to avoid shipping the thing twice... perhaps I can call my rep and get him to customize it over the phone.

Also, can anyone give any input as to the nVIDIA Quadro NVS 140M vs the m1330's Geforce 8400GS situation?

    Thanks though, shreesathe.

the GeForce 8400 GS scored 1456 on 3dmark06.
    the Quadro 140M scored 1461

so they are pretty much the same, but i bet the quadro would perform better with custom drivers.

    Thanks for the link.

Do you have a source for those numbers? Just curious.

Also, sorry for the double post, but how does the size/weight of the 6-cell battery compare with the 7-cell?

I have used both Dell and Thinkpad for work. They gave me a choice of whatever I wanted last week in the price range - I went with the T61. This will be my 3rd Thinkpad - I run them 24/7 for 3 years then replace them, no issues with the last two I hope the same for the 3rd.

Yeah, they are both good choices I think, although I'm sure the Thinkpad has a better chance of surviving the 4+ years of Uni (I'd like to get through it without replacing my laptop).

Anyways, I contacted my university Lenovo sales rep and he's going to see what he can do about getting more customization on T61's shipped to Canada. Here's hoping!!
