Get a Seagate Momentus 7200.2 160GB notebook hard drive for only $116.10 @ Dell.com. Sale price is $129 minus 10% off for PayPal payments = $116.50.
Drive is guaranteed brand new (by four different customer service representatives, two from America, two from India) and comes with 1-year warranty.
Features:
* Provides up to 160 GB storage space
* Features SATA interface
* Offers 7200 RPM spindle speed
For more info, visit Seagate's website.
In case you're wondering how I know CS reps confirmed it is because I own this drive (as you can see in my sig) and got it from this same exact deal a few weeks back.
EDIT:
This hard drive does not have G-Shock Protection, but if your laptop already has an accelerometer on the motherboard (eg. Lenovo ThinkPad, Apple Macbook & Macbook Pro, Dell Latitude, HP business-series, etc.) then G-Shock Protection is negligible anyway.

What is the overall price difference between this drive through dell, and other online sources? Is it worth the drop from 5 year warranty to 1 year when buying it as OEM? Good deal through dell, but some might be concerned about the OEM to retail warranty difference.

I got this drive. It runs fine, same as the Seagate branded model I'm sure. I got a year warranty on my drive. That's enough for me. If the drive's defective, it tends to happen early. As always, have a good backup. I was just messing around with MediaMonkey on my iTod. Something happened and I had to restore it which wiped the drive. I lost everything on it. I use my iTod as my external drive. I had backups for all my data, but lost all the movies on it which I did not have backups for. I have all the discs, but it'll be a pain in the rear to redo them.

As tempting as that is, I would go for the additional 40 gigs and get with this model. Does anyone know if this Hitachi outperforms that one?
Tiger Direct has a rebate on it for the next 3 weeks:

However,

Supposedly the Hitachi offers a bit better performance, but at twice the cost it doesn't seem worth it to me.
TD rebates are known to be problematic and the shipping is like $13. ZZF has it for $220 with no rebates. It would be only $7 more with no rebate hassle.
I can't imagine it don't work with XP. -
ZZF is out of stock last I knew, I can't find it on their website right now.
EDIT: I lied

what kind of hdd can the t61 accept:
sata 150
sata 3.0
ata-6 -
I think it says that it doesn't work in XP because XP doesn't have SATA drivers built in...or something. I don't remember having to install drivers whenever I was helping my friend build his desktop with a SATA hdd in it.

Yes, 7k200 is faster in benchmarks. Simple math shows that the difference between $200 for 200GB and only $116.10 for $160 is unmistakable. -
I really want that 7200.2 drive but that 1yr kinda worries me. I have had plenty of drives fail after the 1 year mark...
Also, dont forget neweggs paypal20 code that gets you $20 off your purchase of $100 or more
A deal for ThinkPad users looking to upgrade to 7200rpm hard drive
