I've just bought a T 61 and I'd like to ask these two questions:
(1) I was told that the it had 160 GB and it actually has 142 GB. Is it the usual difference?
(2) I've never used a ThinkPad before. When I use Microsoft Word, I can't scroll by using the TrackPoint center button and the TrackPoint pointing stick. Why is that? It's freaking me out.
Thanks for your help.

On the first question, the OS takes up some space, and a few GB are lost in formatting.
-
Don't forget the recovery partition. That eats up around 7GB on my HDD.
I can scroll with the pointing stick config in MS2003 just fine. Maybe it's a setting in the control panel that you need to fix? -
Well, I don't know, I went to the control panel, and everything seems ok. Actually, when I open other windows I can scroll just fine. I don't know why it happens only in some cases.

it is the way you count bytes. it is normal to have a 147gb total hd, such as what I have when i paid for 160gb

about scrolling with the middle button: you can definitely do it. Have you installed the synaptics drivers? I'm not home so not using my t61 so don't know for sure, but it has to do with installing all the drivers for the mouse/trackpad/synaptics thing. Check the driver matrices on the lenovo website and download all things mice.
