I have a t60p with the ati v5250 gpu and recently had a problem with .net updates from microsoft updates and wanted to post my solution in case anyone else had the problem.

Automatic updates said there were new updates ready to be downloaded and installed. I checked them, it was .NET 2.0 sp1 and .NET 3.0 sp1. I installed both and immediately had problems.

My processor was bogged down 50% continuously. I checked task manager for processes and MOM.exe was continually opening and ending.

I uninstalled CCC to stop the MOM.exe problem until I could figure things out.

After the MOM.exe problem was over, several of my programs would not start, and the computer often ignored the command to shut down.

I finally solved the problem, Here's what I did:

    1. I restored to a point before the update of both .NET installations and got rid of those.

    2. Since the first victim of the update was CCC and the video driver, I uninstalled all ATI software including the currently running driver and restarted the computer. (Made sure to download the driver to have ready)

    3. I cleaned the registry.

    4. Installed the video software.

    Problem solved

The video software uses .NET and apparantly did not like the update. It took a lot of trial and error to come up with that simplified list above, so I hope someone else benefits from it.

I had similar issues with the .Net service. in some instances it would not install NHC or it would stop in the middle of installation but the CPU would jump to 50% usage all the time.

I found that if you install ghostsurf, you cant use NHC as it crashes.

I guess there is a lot that needs fixing with .NET or programs that use it

    What OS are you on?

That may help people a bit.
